The Girl From ‘Blurred Lines’ Video Photographed For CR Fashion Book Fall 2013

Remember Thicke’s Blurred Lines? Among the many reasons that brought the controversy upon Pharrell and Thicke’s song and video, Emily Ratajkowski was one of the main motifs to like or dislike it (at least the video).
But much like another modern fashion days icon, Kate Upton, Emily is also the new magazines darling following her dancing in that video. Somewhere along the ‘blurred lines’, pole dancing has reached the stage of art and it’s now casting a ‘celebrity’ spotlight on girls who normally wouldn’t have made it further than Swimsuit Illustrated. The aesthetic value of these young ladies doesn’t go deeper than their bra size, their pout volume or their bouncing dancing moves.
Talking about Carine Roitfeld’s movie earlier reminded me that I had seen a snippet of her CR Fashion Book Fall 2013, a Bruce Weber pictorial with Karlie Kloss and our girl Emily Ratajkowski.
Kim Kardashian 3 Fashion Disasters In A Week!

As if we needed more proof of Kanye West’s fashion views! Kim Kardashian is under the supreme style counsel of Kanye and she’s chaining fashion disaster after fashion disaster! Remember when she was a walking catwalk? I never thought I’d say that, but: I miss those days!
Now Kimmy is friends with haute designers (she even called Riccardo Tisci ‘Ricky’ in a discrete thank you note via Twitter) and a new mother, attending Fashion Week but a walking fashion disaster while doing so! At first, I thought it was just the Parisian air that didn’t go well with her lungs as two of her fashion wreck outfits happened during PFW, last week (the grey leggings & Minnetonka boots while at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris and the black dress while attending the Mademoiselle C Cocktail party, also in Paris) but just the other day she had lunch with her sister on US soil and she still didn’t hit the right fashion notes!

Mango seems to be onto something, doesn’t it? In the past couple of years, they followed a steady path neighboring fashion bloggers and street fashion, celebrity and wearability that’s getting them somewhere. Into fashion wardrobe worldwide. Mango has become a sort of you-don’t-want-to-miss style destination I’m checking up every season.

Vogue UK, Vogue US Focus On Hollywood For Their Fall 2013 Issues

Whether you’re a Homeland fan or rooting for Alfonso Cuaron’s latest project, Gravity, Vogue has it covered for you: the UK and US Vogue issues for November 2013 and October 2013 respectively are both built around a Hollywood movie star. What more reason do you need to turn your life from immediate reality to screen-fiction?
I am huge admirer of both actresses and while Homeland is one of my tv fixtures, I will definitely go watch Gravity now, knowing much more about it (without being a spoiler, I watched the movie trailer’s beginning and at 3 the seconds mark I was convinced it was just another ‘Solaris’ . Granted, George Clooney starring in Gravity was a big part of my ‘Solaris’ reasoning. ). But what I enjoy more, beyond the fashion of it – which is a bit irrelevant since both ladies are more famous for their acting career than their fashion value – is the return of the action hero au feminin. Lady she-roes – we needed that!

An all black fashion show (save for a couple of washed out jeans) designed by Marc Jacobs for the maison he officially parted with. A decision, he confessed, he took the very morning of the show. Yeah. Right. I will pretend he didn’t just insult the entire fashion world by saying that and I’ll just focus on the fashion of it all.
So it was a good-bye collection, celebrating the sweet 16 years of Vuitton commercial and conceptual fashion domination under Marc Jacobs’ creative directives. (hint: having a model parading around handcuffed and chained would that be creative enough?)

Gwyneth Paltrow Wears Stand Up To Cancer Tshirt In New Movie

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month: what would you do to support the cause? Besides wearing pink – the color of this particular awareness? Oh, I know: let’s get inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow and her way of bringing up the awareness talk!
Just last month, a new movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow (Mark Ruffalo and Pink, among other brilliantly gifted actors) premiered world wide. Although filmed in 2011, ‘Thanks for Sharing’ only saw the light of the cinema theaters this fall. But that’s ok because it’s really one of those timeless movies you can watch now or in a few years, nothing really changes. Because it’s a movie about addicts and addictions. And we’ll always have plenty of that, won’t we? (yours truly is a self-confessed nail polish addict, what is your addiction?)
But it’s not the movie I wanted to talk about this time. Although I think all the actors were spectacular and I was oh-so pleasantly surprised by Pink and her acting! I wanted to talk about Gwyneth Paltrow.
Warrior Shoes From Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2014

If you’ve always enjoyed the strange, unusual looks and the daring constructions of Alexander McQueen’s shoes, the Spring Summer 2014 collection designed by Sarah Burton will most certainly become a reference in your footwear fantasy book!
Like fighting against the general trends suggested for the SS14 season, the house of McQueen staged a geometrically graphic show on the Paris Fashion Week scene spiced with warrior allusions. The usual fetishy hints, the always stunning care for details and the couture-ish level of craft invested into every outfit make the maison’s shows a must-stop in my fashion musings travels.
The models, although keeping their neutral expressions, were dressed like warrior fashion princesses, untamed and undefeated, protected by their own style shield. The helmet-like headwear, the feathered skirts and capes, the jewelry and especially the footwear – they all made me think dearly about Terry Gilliam’s Fisher King movie.

Because everyone loves to hate Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent collections, let’s take a moment to see what gets all that negativity in motion!
Since his debut in fashion, Yves Saint Laurent had a controversial trajectory – by which I’m not implying that he made it to fashion stardomness through intricately braided backdoors but that his fashion life was a succession of head spinning heaven-high ups and abyssal lows. And although the house of Yves Saint Laurent ceased to exist for over 11 years, the controversy karma follows Saint Laurent’s namesake brand at any place and any time.
Hopefully, Hedi Slimane has a strong spine and a healthy perspective on himself and everything around him and he won’t feel as disappointed as the grand Saint Laurent felt as a direct result of how the world received and saw him and his creations.
