Vogue Paris March 2013 Goes Radical With Suvi Koponen

Vogue Paris is bringing a radical revolution wave with their March 2013 issue. Or so they say. Covering the clean issue is Finnish model Suvi Koponen, an authentically surprising cover choice for everyone.

Which is not to say that the image, authored by Mert and Marcus, isn’t pleasant or aesthetically right. It’s just difficult to rank Suvi in the Vogue Paris girls gallery. Next to Lara Stone or Anja Rubik. Of course, if I were to speculate, I’d say that this is a new Alt – esque direction for Vogue Paris, in a striving effort to fly higher than Roitfeld’s openly sensual orbit.

But then again Suvi Koponen is on a significant rise, we’ve seen her on the cover of this month’s i-D magazine, next to Kate Moss who had her fair share of i-D covers. There’s no telling before we’ll see the actual pictorial. Do you feel the change? Or just another wannabe – cool editor maneuver from Emmanuelle Alt?

Naomi Campbell By Steven Meisel For Vogue Italy February 2013

Vogue Italy just previewed the cover of their upcoming February 2013 issue, an issue dedicated to women, as far as I can see. And who’s on the beautiful cover? Naomi Campbell!

Naomi photographed by Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia February 2013 trying to embody all kinds of women. All beautiful, all flawlessly styled. With a little help from Pat McGrath for Dolce & Gabbana the Makeup, hair by Guido for Redken, nails by Jin Soon Choi, Naomi looks her usual amazing self, make no mistake, the inside pictorial is just as great as the cover. And we know that because, after the jump, you’ll see a short behind the scenes film by Gordon von Steiner with Naomi talking in the background.

Chloe Grace Moretz Looks Like Carrie In TeenVogue

What? I wrote about Cosmo a couple of days ago, haven’t I? Writing about TeenVogue is just a couple of blocks away from Cosmo. Theoretically – I have no idea where their respective offices are based, I’m just talking targeted audience. More or less.

But numbers and percentages are not why I wanted to talk about teenVogue in the first place! It’s because of Chloe Grace Moretz. And her amazingly Carrie-esque pictorial shot by Boo George!

Bruno Mars Loves His Models: Ajak Deng In Flaunt, Joan Smalls In Vogue

Perhaps you thought that Victoria’s Secret chose Bruno Mars to perform at their show by mistake. Or just because he was the hottest act available at the given time. No. Bruno Mars really loves his models!

After his stint in Vogue with Joan Smalls in her native Puerto Rico, Bruno Mars returns for yet another fashion pictorial, this time in Flaunt Magazine. He’s clearly loving his ladies tall as this time he’s been photographed with the lovely Ajak Deng in yet another potentially controversial pictorial.

Fashion magazines tend to love this kind of challenging pictorials, don’t they?

Milla Jovovich Shooting Vogue Paris Pictorial

There’s much to talk about in this month’s Vogue editions! If Vogue Paris is feeling left out with all that Vogue US talk lately, here’s something to make up for that: Milla Jovovich pictorial from Vogue Paris February 2013.

I wanted to add these images – upon their surfacing – to the original cover story. Except something changed my mind about that. The very pictorial. Clearly not what I expected. And as good as that may sound, the reality is much worse! Milla Jovovich is actually shooting her way through the entire pictorial. And that, in the light of recent events, just seems wrong. Original Carhartt Jacket, Vogue Material!

Remember we talked about Carhartt a while back? It was because (what else?) a certain Carhartt Jacket was worn by Joseph Gordon – Levitt in a movie – Looper, to be more specific.

Well, here we are, having the Carhartt conversation again because – well, believe it or not – a classic Carhartt work jacket was featured in the last issue of Vogue US. The pictorial in question is called ‘The American Way’ and it was photographed by Peter Lindbergh. The $85 jacket is worn by the beautiful Amber Valletta who’s starring in this photo story with Taylor Kinney.

Karlie Kloss Vogue Spain February 2013: Long Hair & LACMA

This is a very vibrant cover, bright, strong colors and Karlie Kloss’ blue steel gaze. But it could also be classified as ‘last season’ as we all know, Karlie’s haircut has received no less than 6 pages in the January 2013 issue of Vogue US.

Photographed by Alex Lubomirski, styled by Belen Antolin with hair by Peter Gray and makeup by Tyron Machhausen, Karlie and her fire red Gucci dress make a charming cover, but the pictorial within surpasses it. Despite of her undeniable golden covergirl material, Karlie’s Vogue Spain February 2013 cover does not live up to Kate Moss’ last month’s Vogue Spain cover standards, but she’s making a great fashion magazine moment nevertheless.

Liu Wen Is Golden In Vogue

Not a day without Vogue! Sounds about right, doesn’t it? Except in this particular Vogue case, everything seems weirder than usual. I can understand and completely accept that you may not feel the same as me about Rooney’s cover, but I think that the Sandy pictorial hits the same question marks within you as it did within me.

Now please help me understand the following image! Masterfully executed by Patrick Demarchelier (and – you guessed it – featured in the same Vogue US February 2013 issue), Liu Wen’s golden paint picture has me wondering what’s it about.

Granted, I don’t know what the associated article is, all I have is the image. But – like they say, a picture’s worth a thousand words, and this one is more like a thousand question marks. I love the idea, though. It’s a classic, I know. But something about this image still leaves me restless – and I think it’s more than just the head / face piece… Should I just get over it and enjoy the general perspective?
