Modeling – as we know it – is not just walking around wearing pretty clothes and nice shoes, working with beautiful people and posing for glossy magazines! It also involves some serious issues (such as facing the Uncle Terry kind of people) and demonstrating hard workout abilities! Have you heard that Vogue already has its September 2012 cover ready? It’s Lady Gaga as photographed by Mert and Marcus, if we’re to believe wwd reporting the facts today!
As surprising as Lady Gaga may be for yet another Vogue cover (after her first March 2011 one), it’s even more surprising to see that Women’s Wear Daily mixed up their images stock and ended up using a photo from Just Jared dot com – as illustrated by the screen cap below. Well, well, well, talking about proper crediting (see for yourself here)!

As the new Vogue Netherland releases its third cover ever (June 2012), the general opinion of the highly esteemed fash population is that, although pretty and lovable, it looks like Vogue Paris.
However, if we just step back and look at the ensemble, everything would be so much clearer: Vogue Netherlands‘ first issue ever was an all white backdrop and three gorgeous Dutch models. Vogue Netherland’s second issue was an up close portrait of Lara Stone, again, against an all white background. Now it’s Guinevere Van Seenus, looking all sorts of lovely and summery, white background and all, but it feels like Vogue Paris? Oh, come on? Seriously?

I was really impressed by Gisele Bundchen’s cheeky Vogue Paris June 2012 cover. It has summer written all over it! In my perspective, at least! But looking at Natalia Vodianova’s photo on the cover of Vogue Russia June 2012, I get frozen shivers down my spine!
There’s so much working against this cover, I’ll try to pick just a few reasons to pass it: the hair – there is such a thing as too eighties! Natalia’s face expression: why so sad and indifferent, Natalia? The yellow shorts: not. even. worth. mentioning! Whoever styled and approved of this, better have something really good inside, otherwise tons of magazines will end up in some basement somewhere. In the dark. Where nobody can see this cover!

I’m perplexed by the fashion people’s ability to work with an amazing model in pretty much always the same registries. Daria Werbowy, although very versatile, keeps posing as fashion’s rock’n roll absolute chick as patterned by Vogue Paris Alt – Roitfeld styling dream team. I know you saw it, and just like me, felt an irresistible crush on it: Joan Smalls covers Vogue Australia May 2012. And she’s looking nowhere short of fabulous and divine while doing it! I was waiting for a better quality image before I put the story up and I think we have our preview now.
Fighting against a natural curiosity brought up by the amazing looks of the cover (of Joan), I’ll limit myself to these two pictures, enough to make one’s Vogue passion come out of hiding and storm into the newsstands looking for the May 2012 issue of Vogue Australia. Yes, inevitable comparisons with Joan’s Vogue Italia cover / pictorial will be made. But fashion is all about diversity, right? And seeing her do the OZ Vogue and Italy’s Vogue is only strengthening Joan’s super – status among today’s models.

I think I’m hunting Hedi Slimane’s photo – projects more than before since that YSL announcement. After all, he’s really talented and his amazing ability to go from designing clothes to equally inspiring photography work is fascinating. Daphne Groeneveld’s Vogue Russia April 2012 stands proof of that photo – perfection!
And, if I’m not mistaken, Vogue Russia is the new Vogue Paris! At least with Vogue Paris’ Doutzen cover (no offense, Doutzen, you know I love you to pieces), there’s really no doubt, Vogue Russia leads the Style Bible pack! Doesn’t it? (if you’re having doubts, click through to see some images from the inside pictorial – Hedi really tries hard to pull some fashion out of Daphne!)

Karlie Kloss is definitely having a moment this year. Hopefully, it will be one of the many years to follow as she’s a very interesting model with character and personality which go beyond her pretty features and perfect – for – modeling body. Covering Vogue Australia’s March 2012 issue only reminded me what a wonderful vision is Franca Sozzani’s! controversy makes the (fashion) world go round, doesn’t it?
