Vida Bedding Collection By Eva Mendes

Let us open wide our arms and welcome Eva, the latest member of the celeb-turned-designer club. I’m beginning to have a AA feeling about all this:

All celebs turning from their usual acting/singing to fashion and design. Is this a way to detoxify their career or to accumulate bank account energy? Getting back to Eva Mendes’ latest news – not about movies, of course. And no, not about Calvin Klein’s allegedly racy campaign (that she promised to continue, by the way!). It’s about bedding. A Latin inspired collection called Vida: Bettina ($340 + $100 completer set), Isabella ($340 + $100 completer set), Rosa ($425 + $100 completer set), Kalia ($340 + $100 completer set). The Collection was made with George Augusto and will hit stores starting mid-September. What difference does it make when you slip in Ikea bedding or Eva Mendes?

Easy Highway Moment

I remember a song that said (approximately) “when you loose your way, you have to take a moment to look around maybe it was yourself you were actually losing”.

Looking at this picture I can’t imagine someone provided with eyes and heart who wouldn’t stop and wonder about nature’s ways and what could’ve made a mother duck stop the traffic on a busy street with her ducklings. Oh well, let’s have that Easy like Sunday morning peaceful piece!

Katie Holmes And Her Gorgeous Hermès Haut De Courroies

Hm. Wide Leg Jeans sweeping the sidewalk and a bigger than life Hermès tote! Who would that be? Katie Holmes channeling her large views on style.

You know, I don’t find Katie disgraceful (physically) but her latest a la Posh attitudes leave me a bitter aftertaste every time I see her. Those baggy jeans are far lovelier than the boyfriend slouchy ones and that Hermes, I sough after for some time now. Anyway, this is Katie larger than life carrying her red Haut de Courroies Hermès bag making me ask once again if Santa really exists and receives my letters and if I’ll accordingly find my fair Hermès Haut de Courroies under the Christmas tree! Do you feel this outfit or have improvements to suggest? (for a little history – The Hermès Haut de Courroies is not actually meant to be a bag. It’s in fact a 18” carryon luggage originally first made in 1900 that translated into the popular Birkin as a downsized Haut de Courroies. And I stubbornly love it as a bag, even if it’s meant to be carryon luggage!)

Kate Moss Has A New Haircut!

It seems this month I would be covering more of Kate Moss than I originally intended. Why? Because she presented a new haircut starting yesterday!

What’s it like? Blond, messy as usual as if she chopped it off herself. And that wouldn’t be a sad news for me – I was looking in the mirror today at my long wavy hair and thought about giving it a proper cut. I hesitate because I don’t know my ways with the scissors (when grooming involved). But now I look at Kate Moss and I say “Why not?” if she can pull a messy bob like this one, I surely can shorten my hair with just 2 inches, right? What do you say about Kate Moss new short bob (and please ignore her usual punk look and concentrate on the messy haircut!)? We should all prepare ourselves for the hair shortening day? (ok, maybe not quite like Posh’s gamine cut)

Prada Fallen Shadows – The Short Animated Movie Fall 2008

Remember those shadows we were wondering about in the Linda Evangelista’s ad prints from the f-w 08-09 Prada campaign?

Problem solved! Here to present the Fallen Shadows short movie by Prada. Where all shadowy silhouettes collide in a lace and flying shoes stuffed Dalí-esque world. The music, however is beyond charming and I could listen to it with or without the lace shadows – The Great White Ocean by Antony and the Johnsons. The clip carries a Frida Khalo air (at least that’s how I remember Frida, the movie) and from the 6 minutes clip directed by James Lima, only 4 are actual animation, which is rather frustrating. I think it’s about motion capture (I wonder if Linda was the motion capture subject!). Watch the Fallen Shadows and tell me what you think (especially after the last Prada animated campaign, 100% insecticide fueled!)

UPDATE: I came across a piece of information confirming what I suspected all along – that Prada’s Fallen Shadows was made with Computer Motion Capture and Cyber-Scanning (meaning that a person would have to dress a suit filled with motion captors relied to a computer that registers the person’s moves and render it into an animated character). The inspiration for this short movie was found in Buñuel, Dali, Duchamp, as well as Escher, like you already pointed out. The atmosphere is similar to the Film Noir, with a pinch of Surrealism and Futurism, all sustained by Antony Hegarty the Johnsons’ sound.

The movie is about a woman and her shadow: “She is the sub-conscience, the dream, the soul, and it is the journey of self-discovery with the sensations of the city that confronts her…and us.”(James Lima)

Sea Break – OMD Sailing On The Seven Seas

All day today I got this on my head. I have heard it on the radio and just couldn’t take it out of my system. That rhythm, those words! And now this clip!

When I watch it, I get the feeling it’s so fashionable, so visual, I almost can make a fashion shoot out of it! Anyway, it just brightens my day! Orchestral Maneouvres in the Dark, shortly OMD with Sailing on the Seven Seas from Sugar Tax, 1991. I know it wasn’t featured on a movie soundtrack (and how unfair that is!) but today the kids watched Finding Nemo and I just couldn’t post that song (again) so I chose another one sea-themed. Either way, I hope you’ll enjoy this OMD Sailing on the Seven Seas, after all, it’s in the nineties trend!

Fashionably Music – Vivienne Westwood’s Catwalk Breakdown

Oh, if only they would get this idea and make it happen for good! Catwalk music available at your local store! It would be so perfectly fashionable!

Let’s all unite in the name of music and fashion to make them release fashion shows soundtracks! I bet it would sell better and faster than the actual runway clothes! Here Dame Vivienne Westwood breaking the ice with her music album! Exclusively launched at Selfridges, September 15, this album contains 16 tracks, all Vivienne Westwood’s favorites (reportedly costing around $50).

“My clothes always tell a story. It may refer to the past, but it’s always projected into this heroic future. And I choose the music accordingly. (…) Sometimes the music can just be sexy, it can let you relax, look at the clothes, put people into a fantastic mood. (…) These are some of the pieces that I’ve relied on over all these years – my classics. They’ve never failed me.”

Wouldn’t you buy albums with catwalk music?
