Mulberry And Christian Lacroix Into Home Decoration
March 29th, 2011 by kpriss
Every day I discover new sources of inspiration and that, in my opinion, is priceless! Inspiration is what drives us to do extraordinary things and I cherish every second of my hunt for inspiration.
Yesterday I found two interesting images from Mulberry and Christian Lacroix. Both of the couture maisons are now into home decoration! I’m unsure for how long this has been going on, however, I’m certain that if I would love a little something from a fashion house in my wardrobe, I would equally welcome the same house’s characteristic vision in my habitat. You already know I’m a sucker for Missoni and everything they do! So how do you like the Mulberry and Lacroix home approach? (via)

Kylie Minogue Dolce & Gabbana Fittings Les Follies Tour Costumes
March 29th, 2011 by kpriss
Now there’s an example of, how our dear friend Ajgingerbelle calls it “not biting the hand that feeds you”: Kylie Minogue perfectly collaborating with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana for the Dolce & Gabbana costumes they created to dress Kylie in her new world tour.
Already started on February 19th, the “Les Follies” tour is Kylie and Dolce & Gabbana‘s third tour – collaboration and their Piccola Principessa (Little Princess) is looking every inch the fashionable artist they wanted her to look like. It seems there’s a special connection between the three, Kylie giving them free hand each time since they know her well and understand what she stands for. (the key element of this tour’s costumes is a golden corset that you’ll see throughout the fittings, binding pieces together) Is that a bad celebrity fashion thing too? (via)

Lily Allen’s Lucy In Disguise Vintage Dresses Collection
March 29th, 2011 by kpriss
I was just reading the piece about Lily Allen’s Lucy in Disguise dresses adventure and I got this crazy idea – remember that Hedi Slimane thought celebrity was the worst thing that can happen to fashion? Now step back and look at the big picture: until not long ago, designers were cutting the fashion bread and spreading it amongst themselves. Only. A closed circle ruled the fashion industry.
Talented people, gifted individuals, undoubtedly, but fashion needed to be liberated! And this happened with the celebrity invasion. Now every celebrity has a stylist and half of them (celebrities and stylists alike) also have a fashion line associated with their name and celeb status. What will become of our dear designers? hmmm.. yeah, I think now I see better why Hedi was so bitter about all this!
Now getting back to our story: Lilly Allen and her sister, Sarah Owen, opened a vintage boutique in London under the name Lucy in Disguise. After a few months from the grand opening, Lily and her sis are expanding into ready to wear with a capsule collection (18 pieces of vintagey inspiration) representing the pre-fall season. Sketches were made available for us to admire and desire the collection which will range from $175 to $630. Available at Harvey Nichols, Shopbop, Le bon marche, Lane Crawford, Freeshop and David Jones. Hedi is so mad right now! (via)
Fashionably Green. Are You?
March 28th, 2011 by kpriss
After doing some reading here and there, I came up with an interesting thought: how satisfied are you with your wardrobe? How much of your wardrobe you feel it’s really you, in tune with your lifestyle and vision?
Of course this was first conducted on my own closet and what I found within was putting the wardrobe math to shame. What if we would think more and buy less? Yes, I know it’s a pretty darn big thing to ask, but let’s take the following into consideration and foray into our wardrobe, see what we can come up with! (what you’re about to read comes from The Green Book:The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen which you can buy here) (via)
The average American purchases forty-eight articles of new clothing per year. If just one of those articles were purchased from a secondhand store, the energy equivalent of more than half a gallon of gasoline could be saved, because of all the energy used to manufacture and transport new clothes. If one in every ten Americans substituted his or her next purchase of one new garment with a vintage one, the energy saved could fly every resident of Hollywood to New York for Fashion Week.

Most Unusual Wedding Cake: Life Size Bride Cake
March 28th, 2011 by kpriss
We’ve seen some pretty amazing stuff here over the years. And I hope it won’t stop here! Though I admit, this is a serious peak in the amazingness chain!
A wedding cake made to look just like the bride? Life size? That’s way beyond the cake wedding dress or the cupcake wedding dress! It’s way beyond the strange wedding dresses collection! It’s something maybe only Mariah could do! However, congrats to the happy couple, we’re ecstatic for them and the courage they had! But you know what the most amazing thing is? no, not the dress but the fact that the very bride looks unhappy while looking at herself in a cake shape! Why would that be? (via)
Chanel Iman And The Power Of Positive Thinking
March 28th, 2011 by kpriss
We usually know a model’s body better than we know how her voice sounds like or what she thinks of. Because it’s their job to walk and look pretty. But what if, inside a model’s mind there’s much more than fashion?
What if a pretty face also comes with a pretty mind? A beautiful soul and a beautiful mind inside a beautiful body? Chanel Iman may just be here to infirm the usual myth that mind and beauty don’t co-exist in the same body. Promoting the self-esteem and anti-bullying initiatives, Chanel speaks about judging others and positive attitude:
Embrace in life those things that offer us the freedom to be ourselves and not be led by the judgment of others. Our inner beauty is often missed or put to the side because of what we see as superficial beauty. Appreciate the depth of others. Appreciate life! Be free! Be confident!
Judging by physical appearance is a sign of weakness, self-doubt and an inability to show love. Learn to control that. We should love one another with the same passion in which we love ourselves. This is how we grow. Be grateful and appreciate what’s yours! It can be gone in a second.
Surround yourself with positive, encouraging influences that create a healthy environment. Dig deep inside and find that passion that has no fear in expressing love for yourself and others. That is what’s going to make you win and make people love you back.
I’ve always been judged and bullied for being tall and skinny my whole life. Early on I listened to others and failed to appreciate what God gave me until I at last excepted what an amazing blessing it was to love me for me.
Beauty really is deep, so go deep and recognize what’s real! Now, I’m not saying stop doing what makes you feel fly, confident or good about yourself. I’m saying don’t over focus on just looks. Try capturing the essence of the inner beauty that makes us who we are.In this un-perfect world don’t allow anyone to disrupt your way because of their small opinions. Don’t be a victim of what others negatively say about you. They have no bearing factor in your future. Let your best shine through, your inner beauty, and lead you to success!

Dior Homme Spring Summer 2011 Short Film
March 28th, 2011 by kpriss
I imagine that, for the people in the fashindustry, a film like the one below is a gesture of high art and, why not, fashion.
For me, a mere bystander, innocent amateur with modest views on the fashion orbit, this Dior Homme Spring Summer 2011 short film by Willy Vanderperre (conceived by Kris Van Assche) is plain odd. Starting with the young man (Victor Nylander), dressed in a suit, sleeping on a cheap rug (not that an expensive rug would have changed anything, but the contrast of the expensive suit and the cheap rug is just painful).
Showing what seems to be a dream going on inside the young man’s mind with skateboarding scenes and sounds, flashes of various images and messages (Je T’aime = I love you at 00:36) resulting in him lasciviously moving and turning is beyond my fashion sense. And no, in the real world, fashion doesn’t turn men on. Far from it! It must be the rug then, eh? (via)
