I was just reading the piece about Lily Allen’s Lucy in Disguise dresses adventure and I got this crazy idea – remember that Hedi Slimane thought celebrity was the worst thing that can happen to fashion? Now step back and look at the big picture: until not long ago, designers were cutting the fashion bread and spreading it amongst themselves. Only. A closed circle ruled the fashion industry.
Talented people, gifted individuals, undoubtedly, but fashion needed to be liberated! And this happened with the celebrity invasion. Now every celebrity has a stylist and half of them (celebrities and stylists alike) also have a fashion line associated with their name and celeb status. What will become of our dear designers? hmmm.. yeah, I think now I see better why Hedi was so bitter about all this!
Now getting back to our story: Lilly Allen and her sister, Sarah Owen, opened a vintage boutique in London under the name Lucy in Disguise. After a few months from the grand opening, Lily and her sis are expanding into ready to wear with a capsule collection (18 pieces of vintagey inspiration) representing the pre-fall season. Sketches were made available for us to admire and desire the collection which will range from $175 to $630. Available at Harvey Nichols, Shopbop, Le bon marche, Lane Crawford, Freeshop and David Jones. Hedi is so mad right now! (via)
