Christian Lacroix Makes Gola Sneakers

If you worried that the haute couture sneaker faces its twilight, here’s something to cheer you up: Christian Lacroix teamed up with British sportswear brand Gola.

The collaboration gave birth to twins (as the Hollywood twins trend requires!) – two Christian Lacroix Gola sneakers: one black and white and another gold and silver. They’re available at the Christian Lacroix stores. Even if I find the sneaker theme a little too much for me to bear, I think this kind of mix between haute couture and affordable street wear benefits both sides. The HC gains in popularity and gets in touch with the present times and cultures, the street fashion brand refines its products and educates the customers. At least that’s my take on things. What’s yours?

Rachel Weisz Covers Vogue US October 2008

What do you do when after a time out from the movie industry you’re ready to come back in full power? You go fetch yourself a Vogue Cover. US Vogue cover!

At least that’s what Rachel Weisz did (and if you think this is a one timer, just think about Gwyneth Paltrow not too long ago). The October issue of Vogue US features the beautiful actress in Rodarte mostly. If there’s one thing making me love this cover, is the end of the Prada Lace reign! Of course this doesn’t mean I was ready to replace that with Rodarte déchiré, but I have a weakness for the cover’s dress. (more pictures and a behind the scenes movie after the jump)

Rachel Weisz Vogue US October 2008 cover

The main disturbance with this October cover is that Rachel’s look is somewhere atop of you. Next in the troubles list is the hair. If this is the styling required for Vogue US, then my every morning hair is ready-for-Vogue-cover. The pictures are perfectly lovely, unreal and out of fashion point. The heavy contrasts used for the stairs photo damage the outfit focus, if ever there was one intended. I maintain the same weakness for the Rodarte ensemble. The Halloween pose is more worthy in photographic beauty more than fashion. Read more…

Dorothy’s Ruby Slipper By Alberta Ferretti

Alberta Ferretti is part of a project called Ruby Slipper Collection and working on a collection that should be unveiled in September 2009 Fashion Week.

I know the NYFW just ended and I’m already thinking about next year’s FW but these red slippers were just breathtaking. They’re made for the celebration of The Wizard of Oz, the 70th anniversary in partnership with Warner Bros and Crystallized Swarovski Elements. For this Ruby Slipper Collection, world’s most acclaimed designers will add their contribution and after numerous public viewings, the collection will be auctioned for the benefits of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Don’t you think these sandals look completely adorable? I wonder if one can actually walk with these? (there’s a detail picture right after the jump)

Questionable Style: Rachel Bilson Skinny And Chanel Bag

For some time now, I look at the various celebrities filling our newspapers, magazines, tv and computer screens and I admit they’re fascinating.

One because they expose their lives, two because they set trends. More you expose yourself, more people judge you in every way. I won’t get into celebs personal matters, they’re plenty to do it on a regular daily basis. I’m just taking the style side of it. So I thought I’d introduce you with a new category called Questionable Style and dealing with our beloved celebrities and the way they dress. The first to inaugurate the category is Rachel Bilson. I know many consider her a style muse and a true fashionista. I remember seeing her only in Jumper, the movie and I also remember I wasn’t too impressed by her, or her character. (there’s a poll attached to this article, so don’t forget to vote after the picture)

Rachel Bilson wearing Skinny Jeans with Chanel bag

However, people seem to take her fashion into consideration and make her outfit choices a must. Today I came across this picture of Rachel wearing blue skinny jeans, a white tank, a man’s cap, Rayban Wayfarers and a big Chanel bag. If you don’t consider matching skinny jeans and white tops today, you’re completely out of fashion it seems! And more! Skinny jeans must end in flops or flats. The more expensive you bag is, more your style it’s praised and gets recognition. Now it’s on you – do you think Rachel Bilson’s outfit was: blind picked or catwalk ripped? Don’t forget to cast your vote!

The Meta Wingback Chair By Bottega Veneta And Poltrona Frau

Here’s a little something to match with your Bottega Veneta bag. No, just kidding! With your Bottega Veneta Leather Desk!

The Bottega Veneta Meta Wingback Chair made in collaboration with Poltrona Frau, an Italian based leading name in luxury furniture. The Meta chair is, of course, made from leather and carries a wooden pillow. The Leather Chair is part of Bottega Veneta’s furniture collection that is now available for purchase online in the Bottega Veneta store. The collection also contains a drawers leather chest (tall or small) all made in the same workshop as the Bottega Veneta bags and leather goods. It seems that these few pieces I found are just the beginning and there will be more Bottega furniture to follow. Would you think that one day they’ll consider vegan furniture too?

Erin Wasson Homeless And Design (Without Moderation)

For a designer, is crucial that he/she find inspiration. No matter how, no matter where. That’s the excuse many find and use. Erin Wasson, former model turned designer got her inspiration for the Spring Summer 2009 collection in something very…derelict-uous.

She’s completely enthusiast about homeless people and their unique and gorgeous style! I think about Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein and so on and so on (randomly picked names from my head), collections signed by designers as well. Flawless, constructed, refined designs which praise perfection and luxury. Why in fashion’s name choose the clothes of someone who’s flamboyant about homeless people’s style?

(…) when I go down to Venice beach and I see the homeless, like, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, they’re pulling out, like, crazy looks and they, like, pulled —– out of like garbage cans.’

Natalia Vodianova Ad For Guerlain Shalimar

You already know I like Natalia Vodianova. For her sad girly beauty translated into a family woman.

Seeing her in this clip didn’t really change my feelings. But I have to admit the obvious similarities between Natalia Vodianova’s Guerlain Shalimar with Eva Mendes for Calvin Klein Secret Obsession. If you’ll watch the clip, I’m sure you’ll see it to. I imagine, however, that this short advertising won’t stir the same controversy Eva Mendes did with hers. The French talking is reason enough to see this ad as chic, beautiful and inspiring, in spite of it being almost identical to Calvin Klein’s Secret Obsession. Do you think this will get banned too? Or you see it as the epitome of European chic?

UPDATE: The short movie was shot by Pablo Roversi and here’s a preview of the ad print for Shalimar. To me looks like the traditional Shalimar poster only in black and white and featuring a blonde with girly looks.

Claire Danes Advertises For Gucci Fine Jewelry

What do you get when you mix fake sun tan, abundant photoshop and Claire Danes? An advertising campaign!

Add some Gucci Fine Jewelry to the salad and here’s Claire Danes for Gucci Fine Jewelry Chiodo Collection! I know for a fact that jewelry advertising has a special photographic regime but plastic-fantastic-looking Claire Danes seems almost freshly cut from her Stardust movie (where I actually liked her performance and the overall story and characters – I’m a big fantasy fan). I look at this ad and dream about that Tiffany ad I liked so much not long ago that looked so natural, feminine and inviting. Do you find these ads appealing (judging the advertising itself and the aesthetics)? (click thumbnails to see larger images)
