If you actually thought Vertebrae was today’s weirdness, well, here comes the Black Widow Collection!
And it’s not only the look of those jewelry flirting with my common goth sense, but also the story accompanying them. Gisele Ganne lives in the UK (42% divorce rate) and comes from France, a country with 38% divorce rate and the highest chic culture. By that I’m saying that everything, everyone (and their dog) must be (and indeed is) chic in France. Even death, mourning and divorce. (more pictures after the jump)
But I guess this jewelry not only refers to humans death or separation. It could also be adopted as trend for animal lovers! Imagine all those rich blonde girls walking their tiny fluffy dogs in Hollywood how they’d suffer if their beloved animals would desert them in one way or the other. Wouldn’t they want to wear some symbol in their memory?
Getting back to art, for art’s sake – the collection is somehow inspired from the Victorian Era when funerals and such events were very important and people celebrated these happenings with memorial jewelry, flowers, hearts, leaves, skulls, coffins (they hang that around their neck????) and gravestones. It’s perfectly fitted for a TV series with vampires and such beings. Unlike other unusual creations, these ones amuse me (even if that’s not really their targeted reaction) and the bird-rings make my day! What do you think about when you see this collection?

I love them! They do remind me of Notre Dame de Paris somehow. The austerity and melodrama about love and death is very French.Piaf and Sade notably.
The irony is most chic dogs I’ve seen in Paris wear 50 euro Burberry collars.
I WANT one of those bird rings!LOL!
Error. The Burberry dog collars on chic Parisien dogs cost around 150euros and not 50.LOL!
I also forgot to say that a Divorce ring seems an interesting idea. When will Dior and LV jump on the band wagon.I hope Mlle Ganne has copyrighted the idea.
Its interesting and rather macabre.
I could see Morticia and Gomez Addams giving this to Wednesday for a sweet sixteen birthday gift. : )
Oh, Ellington, how I loved that series! (the original one, black and white!). You’re so right, it would suit Wednesday like a charm! That rope necklace, especially…
150 euros for a dog collar! Burberry dog collar! The other day I saw a Swarovski collar on a black dog. It felt so wrong on so many levels! But the divorce rings sure are beautiful. I don’t know if they have a special meaning, but aesthetically they’re impressive.
