CFDA. The Journal. The Houses

The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Awards 2010 is upon us. Next Monday there’ll be fashion and there’ll be awards. And hopefully we’ll taste a part of the fun and the exclusiveness even from the outside.

The annual journal that was put together for the occasion features the nominated designers was photographed by Solve Sundsbo (styled by Lori Goldstein. Now that we know the shadows sometimes are more important and far more real than the actual projected images, I’ll try to give as much credit as possible to the stylists). The designers featured within? Donna Karan, Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzzara and Jason Wu to name just a few. Marc Jacobs was also nominated but unable to attend the shoot so instead of his (hopefully) clothed persona, we were graced with a handful of models wearing masks in Marc Jacobs image. Louis Vuitton And FIFA’s World Cup

Doesn’t it feel like a Harry Potter movie? “Louis Vuitton and the World Cup” “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. It does so to me. Now you know how much I know and how deep I feel the (soccer) World Cup (or almost any other sport. I think I was born without the sports chromosome).

Convinced that this event will pass me by like a bad dream, I was determined to let it go. Our dear friend, Adriana, however, talked me into taking it. Whenever I see her passionate about something, I get the same bug (well, almost). So The FIFA World Cup is on in less than a week and it’ll go on for a month, all that in South Africa. It’s surely quite an event, beyond the sports world. Louis Vuitton knows that for they offered a special case to the FIFA (International Federation of Association Football). Don’t miss details of the special World Cup Case by Louis Vuitton right after the jump!

Who’s Currently Styling Who In Hollywood

Every time I went on and on saying good (or not so good) things about the Red Carpet parade, I somehow targeted the wearer. How wrong of me and what an un-Hollywood thinking! Our beloved celebrities strutting the Red Carpet with their fierce dresses don’t pick them personally. Oh, no! They have someone doing it for them. Classic.

A hired professional picks those special outfits so the beloved celebrity in question could proudly walk the Red line stuffed with photographers. So who’s picking for who? Tara Swennen does Kristen Stewart. (hit the jump to find out more secret Hollywood stylist names and who their clients are!)

Party! It’s Easy Like ABC!

It’s the season. Backyard parties and so much more, everyone’s out enjoying the summer. And look what I found to make things funnier! ABC Paper cups!

Besides the obvious reason we should prefer the ABC cups over the usual plastic party cups, the charming ABS paper cups made and commercialized by IaM Design from Seoul, these A-Z happy cups are perfect for decoration purposes too! Just think of all those amazing combos you could do to pass your message along! I definitely love the ABC Paper cups and I’d love me at least one of each 14 variations! How can one resist? Perfumes Sketches By Laura Laine

The best I’ll get when I close my eyes and think about a perfume is a flower. A moment in time. A sensation I experienced while smelling that perfume. Laura Laine, however, thinks about a perfume and, like possessed by it, draws some unearthly beautiful sketch. Something you’d say spilled from the very perfume bottle! (the following drawings were featured in Elle Russia, March 2010)

Or so it looks like to me. Some artists really nail it right (and they’re doing it without creeping the life out of me like most of the modern artists tend to). Take my Adored Husband, for instance – whenever he’s magically exercising his IT art, all I see is a bunch of Abracadabras when in fact it’s all just mathematics. And boy, does it look like art when he’s doing it (which I’m sure he cannot say the same about me when I do the laundry)! How do they do it? Drawing, painting, molding and so on… Is there a sixth – eleventh sense for that? (via, you can see more of Laura Laine’s talented work here)

Would You Pay $749 For A Puma Pico Bicycle?

You know I’m dreaming about biking together with my family for quite a while now. I’m still planning and waiting for the right time/bike to come along.

So I still register many of the bicycles popping along my web-way every day. Puma’s Pico Bicycle is one of those charming unisex bicycles I’d love to stare at and imagine the entire family happily bike riding together. Until then, however – let’s discuss bicycling: (the tech-details are available here): what do you think? These miniature bikes do a better job than normal-sized ones? Why? (via)

Claudia Schiffer, Karl Lagerfeld And The Stern Fotografie Controversy

Claudia Schiffer has somehow managed to overcome Karl Lagerfeld’s aversion for children and mothers. Not only she’s a mother herself, but she was also photographed by the Kaiser while she was 7 months along with her third child. For a Vogue cover!

That alone should make us appreciate Claudia even more than we used to. And consider Karl’s wisdom in a comic perspective, as we always do. However, Karl’s latest fashion cum art deed managed to raise more than eyebrows: it raised the fashion discrimination pulse. Stern Fotografie is a quarterly photography magazine and Karl was commissioned for its 60th anniversary issue. He chose Claudia Schiffer for the occasion: his muse of 20 years. (the story continues with more images right after the jump!)

Pink Jewelled Socks By Vivienne Westwood Man

We’ve talked about socks and sandals a couple of times before. Looking back now (especially in Father’s Day perspective), it was pretty unfair since every single time, it was about women socks. Not once about men socks. Sure, it’s a far lesser impressive subject: men socks. But not anymore. Behold! Dame Vivienne Westwood is bringing the salt and pepper in the world of men socks!

Pink jeweled socks with red and brown tassels is a flamboyant piece of men fashion, not easy to digest by the wide audience. Part of the Fall Winter 2010 collection, Dame Viv’s highly decorated and elaborated men socks look fit for extravagant men only. Do you know any who’d wear them? (via)
