Fashion Must: Find Yourself A Designer Friend!

It’s a mad, mad designer world out there! And if you don’t have your own designer at your side (or at least your own stylist to guide you), you will most definitely be lost in an endless sea of fashoportunities!

Take for instance the celeb factor: it’s worth nothing without the proper stylist! And you know what would be even greater than having your personal stylist ? Having a designer to be your stylist or friend. Or stylist friend. Cum designer. In the words of charming Carey Mulligan (about her friends, Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen).

I couldn’t believe what they did when I texted in a panic about having nothing to wear for my audition for Gatsby. I was hoping they’ve send me some things from The Row, but then these huge boxes arrived—Ashley’s entire collection of thirties vintage dresses.

Yohji Yamamoto This Is My Dream

A new fashfilm is ready for your fashion hungry eyes: a documentary about Yohji Yamamoto and his designing ways. The fashpeople, my modest, amateur self included seem to bear an eternal fascination with dark personalities. Especially if their darkness is creative.

So, to explain and to feed that fashhunger, fashdocumentaries were made. And they’re still going strong, unveiling new faces and captivating spells from the fashion designers world. What makes a great designer? Take for instance Yohji:

I’m not interested in fashion, generally, I’m just interested in how to cut the clothing.

Think of all those watching the documentary, hearing these lines and feeling a sudden urge to get all “designer-ish” on their wardrobe, scissors in the hand! (via)

Up And Away

One of my wildest childhood dreams would have been the one so wonderfully and magically put in motion by Disney Pixar for the movie Up. Again – if you missed it, please, you have to do something about it!

National Geographic is green lighting a new project: “How hard can it be” and this helium balloons exploit was among their first. How amazing and inspiring is that? If we could all follow our dreams like Mr Fredricksen! (via)

Joan Smalls, Constance Jablonski, Liu Wen Estee Lauder Ad Campaign

Celebrating beauty in all its diversity should be mandatory (at least) for the big beauty brands. And I couldn’t be happier with the new Estee Lauder ad campaign featuring Constance Jablonski, Liu Wen and, my personal favorite, Joan Smalls.

Photographed by Craig McDean, the trio is effortlessly impeccable and I sincerely congratulate Estee Lauder for having promoted such an image. If they can’t do anything about excessive Photoshop, at least they tune in to the reality and embrace the pure, simple fact: beauty is diverse! Do you think this will increase the sales? or it’s just a politically correct maneuver? (via)

Jeremy Scott White Underwear Purse. Too Much?

If you consider this particular clutch, then you already know what the two main coordinates for the Spring Summer 2011 fashion are: white and underwear as outerwear. And there’s nothing more impressive than a true fashionista who knows her way around trends.

Not even a man undies clutch! But get this: made of actual leather, Jeremy Scott’s clutch is part of the Spring Summer 2011 and normally sells for $516. Normally, I say, because it’s already sold out chez Colette. Now I know it’s in the trends, and even if I consider myself a fun loving person, I would much rather pay that amount on a more serious clutch. Purse. Bag. How about you? (via)

Zooey Deschanel Rimmel London Ad Campaign

Though she hardly meets everyone’s expectations and exigencies, Zooey Deschanel is one of my favorite actresses. I just like her lighthearted style and I love her smile!

Talking about smile – she’s the new spokesface of Rimmel London lipstick. The ad campaign is out and, even if the Heart Breaker lipstick color looks good on her, I can’t say, with a hand on my heart, that that is Zooey Deschanel. There’s something… so photoshopped about her!

I remember not long back, one of Rimmel’s print ad campaign having been pulled out because they have were using fake advertising (fake eyelashes in a mascara campaign). I wonder why haven’t they learned their lesson and what would it take for them to do so! Flashnews Rimmel people : we’d rather see human faces with human flaws in your adverts! Unless you’re planning to sell beauty products to robots, I suggest you adapt and adjust to the common sense reality! (via)

Oh anyway, here’s to the flowers: Supers Liberty Lucia Sunglasses! I admit the shape can be a little strange but the whimsical jeu de formes – round lenses and pointy half frames makes the Lucia shades pretty extraordinary. The trouble is these beauties come in a very limited edition: only 75 pieces of each color, each pair priced at $210. Ready to ditch your usual rough Aviator style for a more bohemian approach? (via)

Steve Lee For Opening Ceremony Calle Zapatos Perdidos

Opening Ceremony‘s Spring Summer 2011 approach is pretty interesting. At least when it comes to men apparel!

The short film is directed by Greg Luna and features Steve Lee. It’s about lost shoes? Calle Zapatos Perdidos. It looks funny and fashionable. The only trouble with this stylish fashvideo is that the city looks deserted. There’s no other human being, other than Steve Lee running like a lunatic searching for his shoes! Looks like a cartoon to me. A fashionable one, but a cartoon nevertheless! (via)
