Literally! From all standing points, the 2015 Grammy Awards Red Carpet was taking a fashion plunge. Announced during earlier Red Carpet rollouts, the dramatic cleavage trend made its appearance at the 2015 Grammy Awards edition and also style-wise, the dresses were less than ok. I’ll save you the trouble and go with the best appearance on the 2015 Grammy Awards Red Carpet: Rihanna.
Rihanna and her Giambattista Valli Couture pink cascade of tulle, her ballerina bun and her precious smile. That look was effervescent, fun and glorious on the Red Carpet! Yes, princess-y, yes so girly unlike other Good Girl Gone Bad outfits, but a total style savior for this year’s Grammy Awards fashion parade!
Too bad she had to wreck it all by wearing an ill-fitting Maison Margiela black tux for her stage performance! I wonder if that wasn’t Kanye’s doing as he seems to consider himself such an artist these days as to bash Beck and the reasons that made him the recipient of the Album of the Year Grammy!
I usually don’t lose the fashion focus during such events – it saves me the general politics – but I didn’t take Kanye seriously when he crashed Taylor Swift’s win and I was hoping he’d learn something from that moment. He didn’t. Obviously. Not only he tried to steal Beck’s Grammy stage time but he made very public complaints (in an interview with E!) about how the real artists are treated:
I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce.
I’ll just leave this here as I was simply bewildered when he first made the statement and the feeling hasn’t washed out since!
Back to fashion, now: I’m grouping everyone in batches expressing my feelings in a fashion concentrate with a clearer vision since we’re, after all, way in the after hours of the glamorous event!
The Weird Styles
This is where good style worn bad, bad fashion worn silly and tastless looks regroup: Charli XCX in Moschino SS15 was just as hi-q as her music – a flavorless wannamakeastatement kind of vlog-star. Kim Kardashian’s JPGaultier Couture SS15 was the very metaphor for her own persona: a robe-gown for a celebrity who famously gained notoriety from the privacy of her bedroom… Really, Kimmy, all that you’re barely hiding there? Everybody saw and knows!
Lady Gaga tried hard to pull out a classy retro number in a shiny Brandon Maxwell dress with really low décolleté and really high leg slit. Overall she was looking like a washed out Jessica Rabbit. Toni Braxton’s white Marc Bouwer FW15 dress appeared strangely unfinished and the paneled Vneck did nothing to save the sheet-like feeling of the gown.
Taylor Swift should’ve taken her words seriously and shake off that skirt/train on her teal Elie Saab number. Edgy and all-too-cordinated, Taylor was an 80s vision at the 2015 Grammy Awards. Katy Perry took her blue hair an her shredded Zuhair Murad SS15 Couture dress out on the Red Carpet and then hid them all, thankfully, for a monumental Valentino white caped number on the Grammy Awards stage, for a very subtle yet strong performance.

White and silver make too good-of-a-match to leave out of the Red Carpet! However, Ariana Grande’s Versace SS14 gown, although customized to elongate her tiny silhouette, failed to leave a pull-together impression.
The Bland Styles
Anna Kendrick in Band of Outsiders black suit with dramatic cleavage – lovely, nothing against the look, but Anna, you’re no Angelina, so this is where you blend in and she stands out even in an office suit. Another bland black appearance, this time in Miranda Lambert’s persona. In a Gabriel Cadena dress with cutout details around the waist and pink spaghetti straps popping out of her chest. Pretty, yes, but not outstanding.
Nicki Minaj went for a daring Tom Ford curve-embracing dress with spaghetti fringed skirt. All shiny, all trendy yet failing to impress.
Styles On The Edge
Nicole Kidman in Mugler PreFall 2015 – who would’ve seen Nicole in a rock star attire? Miley Cyrus in Alexandre Vauthier Couture SS15 – who can look at Miley and imagine she’s not twerking? Rita Ora’s silver sequined custom Prada was beautiful, so was her hair and her sparkling personality – I just can’t stop looking at her and imagining she’s pull a prank of some sorts… I think it’s because of her playful smile I can’t take her all that seriously!
Iggy Azalea, in a deep, cobalt blue Armani dress had all the separate elements to pull together a serious style statement: cutouts, dramatic Vneck, the right color and a bold hairdo! All she managed was getting compared to a loaf of braided bread. I’m guessing that for a show in which Kanye sets the bullying tone, the audience can’t do otherwise but follow the bullying chorus.
Gwen Stefani custom Atelier Versace SS15 black jumpsuit was as edgy and un-balanced as one could imagine when you squeeze too much curve on the same garment. Curved lased cuts for the corset, scrunched up pants for the bottom. While I completely appreciate the personality touch, I think the pants would’ve looked far better with a straight, slightly flared cut.
Madonna is turning into Karl Lagerfeld – notice how she keeps on wearing skin-tight over the knee boots and tall gloves? Doesn’t that tell you anything? It spells out, loud and clear ‘signature look’! Her Madgesty was ready to take out some major bull-s at the 2015 Grammy Awards where she took the stage for a rendition of her latest single.

Talking about Queens: Beyonce was all beautiful in a Proenza Schouler black dress very much on her mermaid-style alley – so no surprise there! She even accepted the Vneck trend challenge and slightly covered the decollete with her generous hair extensions.

Rhianna looked great. I liked her whole look and it suited the Grammys and was a nifty change from everyone else. I also like Taylor Swift as what she wore had a kind of a modern retro feel too it.
Everyone else like Lady gaga, Nikki Minaj, Katy Perry , Iggy A, they all were trying too hard.
Kim K looked like she was wearing Liberace’s house coat. I know that she has tried to up her fashion style and sense since bonding with Kanye but it just seems so forced and lame, like she is the poor-man’s J Lo and JLo is the poor-man’s JLo.
Beyonce always looks the same I just do not care I would rather have loved to see what Solange wore if she was there because it would have been interesting, Madonna always dresses with a theme in mind so I always see what she wears as part of the performance rather than a fashion statement.
Everyone else was boring and forgettable to me.
