2013 AMAs Red Carpet Dresses: Black And White

Do you take inspiration from the Red Carpet events for your day-to-day outfits? Or are you simply entertained by the myriad of stars putting their best glitz-and-glam interpretation on Red Carpet display?

The 2013 American Music Awards ceremonies were held last night at the oh-so-famous Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Music stars and movie stars, everyone was there, trying to outshine and outperform the next entertainer. As always, I’m trying to enjoy the show in full, stepping back a little and looking for the wider perspective. And the Red Carpet take on the evening dresses focused on black and white.

Black and white is the new black, if you will! I’ve rarely seen such a monochromatic sartorial display when preparing my Red Carpet reports! So let’s get to it, hit the jump!

Black Dresses

alphabetically: Alicia Silverstone who was dressed in Nicole Miller black dress with golden details, Ciara in black J Mendel dress, Heidi Klum in black Marchesa fringed dress, heavily accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Jamie Alexander was head-to-toes gorgeous in vintage Armani, Joan Jett was absolutely rocking her leather-y black outfit while Jordin Sparks will definitely get some cool mentions about her 2013 AMAs black Jovani Couture dress!

Kesha’s Michael Costello dress was pretty pompous for her usual ‘uncivilized’ style, Naya Rivera’s Michael Kors dress raised some serious pulses, let alone fashion applause while Paulina Gretsky correlated her black dress to the evening’s code.

Rihanna had an interesting Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown, just as unconventional as her own persona (and hairdo).

Black and White Dresses

as worn by Daisy Fuentes, Katy Perry in an Oscar de la Renta bouquet gown and Zoe Saldana in a fabulous Roland Mouret lace dress. (is it just me, or she’s wearing some kind of wedding ring on her ring finger?)

White Dresses

as worn by Christina Aguilera’s white Maria Lucia Hohan is emphasizing her weight loss from last year’s AMAs Red Carpet when she was repeatedly pointed at for her unhappy choice of outfit (to fit in the night’s theme, Christina was wearing a black dress for her stage performance). Kendall Jenner looked like her necklace was dragging her down which made her look awkward in her Keepsake white ensemble. Kristen Bell was really pretty as a presenter in her white Michael Kors dress.

Miley Cyrus kept it serious with a white Versus Versace suit while Nicole Richie’s Emilio Pucci white dress had a very surprising halter back… The beautiful Zendaya opted for a shapeless Donna Karan dress which she paired with sky high silver Louboutin platform shoes.

Let’s not forget about Lady Gaga’s white horse….

Before I get on talking about the handful of brightly colored dresses, I have to mention the

Metallic Dresses

as Ariana Grande was retro perfect in her sequined red Dolce & Gabbana dress Emma Roberts was lovely in silver Lanvin, Kelly Osbourne’s silver grey Rami Al Ali dress was even less impressing than Kelly’s intricate braided updo while Taylor Swift was model material in a gold Julian Macdonald sequined mini dress.

Colorful Dresses

from Jennifer Hudson’s orange Dior, just two more ladies wore bright gowns at the 2013 AMA Awards: Jenna Ushkowitz in a tangerine Raoul dress while Sarah Silverman was wearing yellow Lela Rose. Oh, and Lady Gaga had a lavender Versace up on her white horse there…
