Yesterday I told you all a short Vogue US story. The one I see through my fashamateur eyes. Now I’d like to tell you the French version. Vogue Paris February 2012 is all about Daria Werbowy as photographed by Inez and Vinoodh.
Daria is simply breathless on the cover, the issue is as promising as can be with an amazingly beautiful Prada swimsuit (although I promise, if I’d ever have a swimsuit like that, I’d frame it rather than face the Ocean waves wearing it!). After all, Daria is such a rare sight in fashion lately, one can’t do otherwise but consider it’s pure luck to have her on a magazine cover! But (you saw that one coming, didn’t you?) – yes, there’s a but! Let’s talk about it after the jump! (you can check out the gallery here)
The main pictorial is, unexpectedly, all Daria (and some nameless extras). A total of 73 pages with Daria wearing this, styling up and down the fashion avenue with all kinds of designer clothes in all kinds of settings. The end result is impressive. Not all in good, though! Emmanuelle Alt styled it all and it shows. She sometimes plays it too safe all in trying to take risks. As a direct consequence, her pictorials can feel unfinished, her styling appears to be lifeless (I only selected a few of the images from the actual magazine, you can see more here)
People who were constantly complaining about Vogue Paris under Carine Roitfeld now can’t stop daydreaming and constantly regretting her editions of Vogue. Those who used to praise and admire Emmanuelle Alt now hide their faces in the palms of disappointment – were you expecting that much? That you cannot longer handle the truth? I don’t think Carine was expelled from Vogue Paris’ editorial team. I think she went away from her own will. Let the world see what Vogue Paris really is without Roitfeld’s vision! Point taken, Carine.
I don’t expect Conde Nast to re-appoint her at VP’s helm, but I don’t think they’ll keep Emmanuelle Alt for long. At least not in this position. Actually: does anyone have any ideas about the sales reports since Carine took off? How is VP doing? Oh, and just because: we’ve got Vogue US, Vogue Spain, Vogue Italy, Vogue Hellas, Vogue Brazil, Vogue so-forth – why the French edition of Vogue is called Vogue Paris? Smug much?

I like this cover because it has the elements that I like – a model, not too much text & purple!I like the swimsuit – it is a bit of wow! I think Daria looks great – slender but curvy / womanly.
