2013 Oscars 7 Major Fashion Fails

Wrapping up this wonderful 2013 Oscars night, I’d like you to join me for a couple of conclusive stories. I’ll start with the negative, so I can get it out of the way and concentrate and the beautiful things!

Like many fanciful events, the 2013 Oscars Red Carpet had its share of beauties but also a good slice of meh-s as well. And sifting through some of the most unimpressive, uninspired looks of the night, I think I came up with some representative examples of Red Carpet fashion fails at the 2013 Oscars!

{1} 2013 Oscars Fashion Golden Fail: Renee Zellweger’s custom made Carolina Herrera golden dress!

2013 Oscars Fashion Fail Renee Zellwegger gold dress

You’d think that after all these years of wearing Herrera, both Renee and the designer would know what fits her best and what compliments her most. Tonight’s dress proved that none of the above are of any value and importance to neither one of them. I’m sorry, Renee, you’re my first choice for 2013 Oscars Fashion Fail!

{2} 2013 Oscars Fashion Red Fail: Sally Field’s Valentino red dress. Although a gorgeous gown in itself, undoubtedly delicate and sartorially flawless, it didn’t do anything for Sally Field. On the contrary – it looked like draped curtain on her. Really shapeless and unfitting. Maybe it was the color, maybe just the cut, but certainly a second choice on my 2013 Oscars Fashion Fail list!

{3} 2013 Oscars Fashion Gray Draped Fail: Melissa McCarthy’s custom made David Meister gray draped dress was clearly adapted to comfort and suit her body, but didn’t flatter lovely Melissa at all. It ended up being shapeless, of no form and fit and surely unflattering for Melissa’s already pale complexion. The dress, minus the embellishments, had excellent qualities for domestic wearing, surely not for Red Carpet parade!

{4} 2013 Oscars Fashion front – to – back Fail: Jennifer Garner’s Gucci custom made violet dress started out as a complete failure and ended up with an absolutely stunning derriere! If you’re into that kind of giant back flurry! She looked beautiful, as she’s an adorable person through and through, but I sadly declare I preferred looking at Jennifer Garner’s back, at this 2013 Oscars edition!

{5} 2013 Oscars Fashion complete Fail: Anne Hathaway in her custom made Prada soft pink satin dress. Already discussed it, so I won’t get to it again!

{6} and {7} 2013 Oscars Fashion Unspectacular Choices: not fit for the Fashion Fail column, but not all that head spinning in my opinion, a handful of beautiful ladies chose their gowns too carefully. Too safely, too cliché – y. Among them was Halle Berry who opted for a more dressy Versace black & silver dress but failed to produce a memorable impression on me, like she did with her flowery revealing Versace number a couple of weeks back. I guess some bodies are just meant to be shown…

Naomi Watts who was wearing a custom made Armani Prive silver sequined dress was not on my style alley. It did look pretty on Naomi and there’s no particular flaw to it but didn’t feel right. When everyone was playing it Old Hollywood Glamour, there goes Naomi Watts, standing out. Then again, many of the custom – made dresses tonight failed to impress me.

And that, my dahlings, wraps up the negative side of the 2013 Oscars story – be aware, though, I’m always opened to new perspectives and arguments that could switch me from the dark fashion side to the sunny style mood. It’s only up to you, so hit the comments section, don’t hold back!

I loved Naomi Watts on the red carpet in her Armani Privé. One of my faves!! I don’t care what anyone thinks. I still love her and her dress. Nice couple she and Liev.

Where’s that freak Jane Fonda speaking of epic fails?Ugh…ugh…ugh…ugh…..so that’s off my chest.
Jane and Halle should have posed together in Versace. Same figures too. Not the same age, Halle is very beautiful. Hopefully natural? But the dress…she told she wanted ‘a Bond girl dress’. Okay…got to say her entrance, her walk on stage was perfect. What a way to move.

Jennifer Garner….ugly dress and so unflattering for her figure. Awful when your husband is the toast of the town. Oops…..

She’s an adorable woman, great actress but oh, poor Sally…..

Anne, awful. I couldn’t stop staring at her n!pples. Not something I usually do, She said she chose the dress in the last three hours. Oh, that’s why the fitting did look ill and unfinished?

I quit. This Oscars red carpet and show did annoy the hell out of me. The new producers failed. Bad, bad coverage and I hated the presenter. I’ll be back. Not all was negative….;)

Naomi Watts’ dress was the only one that I liked out of your fail choices Kprss.
And to that list I would add Kristen Stewart as well.
So glad that I did not watch the Oscars.
Seth McFarlene is a bit of a one note tool.

Kristen Stewart, ah yes :) we could replace her with Naomi ;) as I see you all liked her :)

@Appollonia – for a three hours process, her choice was rather poor :(

I liked the stage setting, though. Especially for the ‘In Memoriam’ segment with Barbra, it looked amazing.

Oh dear….

:P

Sorry, I can’t remember much of the settings during the IM segment. I did miss Sylvia Kristel, honoured at the Bafta’s.
Also I couldn’t stop staring at Barbra and wonder what age she is?
I didn’t notice Renee’s dress either. Staring at her face too….or the most worse in canary yellow Jane Fonda!! Oh, my good God…….

it’s not under moderation – it has been consequently modified and thus removed :)

the lights turned off and then there were these spikes in the background, mimicking candles – so many of them, so wonderfully placed, I was really impressed by that! As for Barbra…who’s counting? lolz! she’s eternal!

Oohhhhhhh…….hides…..with a red face……

Thank you!!! It’s very obvious I’d skip a whole loooooong night….lame excuse though ;)

Naomi’s was in mine (and seems most others) opinion one of the best of the entire evening!

Even stylists and fashion forums, so not sure what you had against her to have her on te list.

Even if a dress isn’t to your taste per say certainly shouldn’t make it a ‘fail’.

With hiccups and ill fitted gowns or not put together stars really having her on this list is such a shock.

Was beautiful and different that women LOVED it and sexy and beautiful that men LOVED it (even ryan secrest admitted to wanting to check her up and down in it)!

So you’re opinion doesn’t change the impact it had on everyone else positively or that it will most likley always be remembered as what it was a knock out iconic best dressed gown of Oscars 2013

Like Hilary swank + Angelina jole in previous academy award red carpet looks.

I thought Renee looked spectacular! And so did my husband :-) Came to your site as looking to pin it – guess beauty really is in eye of beholder :-)
