Few years already we’re abusing the “supers are back” slogan to a point of complete waste of meaning, of significance.
It would be both an understatement and an exaggeration to say that Harper’s Bazaar March 2010, the US edition with Kate Moss on the cover or Harper’s Bazaar March 2010, the UK edition with Cindy Crawford on the cover were disappointing and small. While feeling funny about already talking January 2010 magazines and observing they still log on to the supers – safe – mode, I want to point that Elle Magazine‘s perspective is rather twisted and mean (you’ll see just what I mean throughout this very article).
Helena Christensen (who, for the record, I favorite amongst the supers and by right, for she truly is a beautiful woman) covers Elle January 2010, the UK edition. Beyonce still rocks her L’Oreal contract. Because she’s worth it. The new L’Oreal Holidays special ad campaign features Queen Bee wearing a beautiful fringe flapper dress and a highly filtered and photoshopped pretty face. (can you believe we’re already talking about Christmas collections?)
No, she’s not showing off her dress but her eyes makeup. With a little help from the digital retouching team. Because she’s worth it. Again! Seeing this makes me think I’ll give up makeup completely and become a pro in Photoshopping. That way, I can retouch my own photos any way I please. Isn’t Photoshop a wonderful beauty tool? There goes another magazine highlighting the supermodels! Always a pleasure, an enchantment to see those lovely faces back in the spotlight.
This time it’s C Magazine making the supers waves with a story about supermodels out and about California: natural born beauties or simply adopted by the sunny land Carolyn Murphy, Cindy Crawford, Peggy Moffitt, Tatjana Patitz, Kirsty Hume, Guinevere Van Seenus and Lauren Hutton. I was very reserved when I saw Kristen McMenamy’s photos from Vogue Italia July 2009. Photographed by Steven Meisel and supposedly being a recognition of her supermodel status, the pictures look pretty frightening.
Not because of Kristen. Or maybe because of her. But it all looks so cold, so unalive I can’t think of anything else but the undead, goth inspiration for this upcoming Fall season. Unquestionably a Super, Cindy Crawford shows everyone that you can wear your forties like nothing at all, flaunting her womanly curves in the pages of Vogue España August 2009.
She may not look (as airbrushed) as many models or actresses (or any other celeb doing a magazine cover), but Cindy still got it! And we shouldn’t try to minimize her fashion influence. Instead of pointing out that she’s not in her 20s anymore, we should all respect the natural human becoming of a Supermodel now a gorgeous 43-year old woman with an iconic mole and a bunch of super fash-memories! Summer magazine issues are usually easy to read, easy to pack and lightweight. The German Magazine Zoo Magazine features Devon Aoki on their 23rd Issue cover, the Summer Issue.
I will not hide that I brought this picture to your attention because I like Devon. Her nineties androgynous figure and apparent insouciance add personality to her neutral model self. ( I only like her as a model, she’s quite a terrible actress, I remember seeing her in one of the Fast and Furious movies and she looks/sounded pretty unconvincing but managed a pretty picture after all) Wearing a Stella McCartney lovely mini dress, photographed by Aneta Bartos, Devon is the light cover of Zoo Magazine‘s Summer Issue. One of the most natural presences at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Met Gala 2009 is supermodel Cindy Crawford. The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion was made for the supers. The Met Red Carpet is such an amazing defile!
Wearing an electric blue Versace dress, Cindy brings back the glory days of modelling. Cindy Crawford pulling an Elizabeth Hurley isn’t something you get to see every day! Say, Cindy, is that a corset under those fabric wraps? Don’t miss the gallery after the jump! (photos via)
