Kristen McMenamy Does Vogue Italy July 2009

I was very reserved when I saw Kristen McMenamy’s photos from Vogue Italia July 2009. Photographed by Steven Meisel and supposedly being a recognition of her supermodel status, the pictures look pretty frightening.

Not because of Kristen. Or maybe because of her. But it all looks so cold, so unalive I can’t think of anything else but the undead, goth inspiration for this upcoming Fall season. Which is not very fash-inviting to me. I like my fashion to be funny and sunny! (the story continues with more images and a video right after the jump!)

Vogue Italy July 2009 Kristen McMenamy legend

Though I cannot deny the artistic (fashion wise and not only) value of this pictorial, I can’t feel blessed by such a gloomy view. Kristen McMenamy goes great with the theme, the clothes, the atmosphere, she really makes one with the outfits and the setting (whoever imagined the styling was truly inspired). Vogue Italy delivers a chilled goth moment for July 2009 (is that really Kristen’s hair?), a model par excellence issue, so rare in Vogue‘s world!

Kristen is downright super, even if she’s hardly remembered as such. (I have to ask, though, because it’s so obvious – if she would have appeared in George Michael’s Freedom 90, would she have been remembered as clearly as Christy &co as one of the supermodels?) (photos via)

OMG, the best part is Iron Maiden, the soundtrack of the video! Wasted Years….oh, I love that song, it’s epic! Was the video and the music Steven idea’s? Doesn’t surprise me.
Sorry, I couldn’t get rid of the kind of melancholy I woke up with after watching three hours Viktor&Rolf life on tv yesterday night and it was over like it were thirty minutes or so. Too soon I could have go on watching for hours more.(Iron Maiden’s music just woke me up.) All the beauty they showed and things and that has inspired them and still does also pieces from movies I love for life. Like a 10 minutes scene from Luchino Visconti’s “Ludwig”. Where beautiful, great and alas late Romy Schneider (as the famous Elizabeth, Queen of Austria) arrived at one of Ludwig’s bizarre but beautiful castles and walks around to explore all that glory and beauty which is so empty and lonely at that the same. Rolf explained: “To watch Visconti movies you need patience and rest to enjoy his stories and the beauty he showed” in Dutch the same way I explain Luchino Visconti to people. Better than this..
“Ludwig” has a lot of that darkness too as I see here. Yes, it’s cold and lonely. Is Steven Meisel depressed? Is getting older catch him now? What is it?
I’ve always considered Kristen a Super! Always loved that special beauty of hers. Still does with her gray-ish hair. She makes this darkness beautiful to me. That bunny ears that made Madonna look ridiculous makes Kristen look interesting.
About the Goth thing, the Goths I know are very cheerful happy people! They’re dressed like fairy tale ghosts or elfish but they live a certain life style I do respect. It’s not as dark as it looks like. They are beautiful people who pay attention to their look and to whom and what they are and why they are like that.

Sorry, I can’t explain myself really. I fell asleep last night trying to write a piece in english about Viktor&Rolf three hours life in “Zomergasten” (Summer Guests). I’m even more a fan now I wish some of you could have seen it. When the credits were almost over the phone rang. What a blessing that was. My friend, he knew exactly when I cried and smiled and so on……so nice.
One thing we had a lot of fun about was that Viktor&Rolf call Fashion TV fashion porn! LOL, just like we do! We hate it….hahaha…..such amicable totally opposite guys. They never say much personal things and this talk show was not really different. But what they showed and that tiny bit of personal things they said made me love and admire them more.

lovely! :*

I’m happy for you, really! it was a great show, you say, and it seems it has grown you past the reserves you had about Viktor and Rolf not being active in their own country! I wish I could have seen it too!

Oh no, I’ve always understood Viktor&Rolf wanted to show their work on a international level. That was a smart move. I’ve never had problems with that. It’s kind of a Dutch thing: that this is kind of big headed action. So un-Dutch to do so. But look how they’ve succeed!
They don’t live in Paris anymore. They don’t like to socialise in the Paris’ fashion scene as they told. Amsterdam is more relaxed as they declared. Both off them. They live with their mutual partners here in the Netherlands and work here too since some years. But they’re still international focused so they are often in Paris and will remain to work like that.
Ah, their home is where their heart is?
Kpriss, I assure you, knowing what you like, you would’ve enjoyed the show, every minute of it.

Yes, it’s off topic I know, but it’s about fashion and I loved it to share with you and maybe others like to know about it? :)
