The New Must-Have Jeans: 70s Flared Comeback

A very flattering and feminine silhouette, the Seventies are back in fashion this Spring/Summer season! Regardless of how much you love your skinny and boyfriend jeans, this year it’s time to add another staple to your denim wardrobe: the 70s jeans!

Although preferably dark, with a tailored pleated cut, the new must-have jeans are slick and timeless! Yes, they do make a fashionable comeback this year, thusly making them easier to find in stores, but make no mistake, these are jeans you’ll want on a heavy rotation wardrobe duty!

You’ve seen them before, as I mentioned Jennifer Connelly wore a pair of Louis Vuitton jeans with this particular cut, for a photocall appearance at the Sundance Film Festival. A couple of weeks from that moment, here’s Charlotte Gainsbourg making a fashion statement in a pair of jeans with the same 70s allure.

Also designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere for Louis Vuitton, the slightly flared, bootcut tailored jeans fit Charlotte like a glove. Both she and Jennifer are on-off muses for the designer during his Balenciaga tenure and now at Louis Vuitton as well.

As we’ve seen them, both ladies know their way around haute fashion and casual style with the same effortless and consistent approach. Time and time again I found them inspiring and this is no exception as I’m set on finding a similar pair of jeans for my own personal wardrobe. Whilst I can enumerate a considerably high number of pros, the only cons I can think of right now, for this style of jeans, is that they look amazing with high heels! And wearing high heels is often strenuous for one’s back and feet.

I scooped up and found five pair of similar jeans as you can see below. You can either pair them with turtleneck sweaters like Charlotte, with zipper cardigans like Jennifer Connelly did at Sundance, with a printed shirt or a tucked-in casual tee. Try to balance the slick look of the tailored denim with a loose or cozy top (sweater, printed shirt, loose tshirt). This style will elongate and slim your silhouette as long as you wear it right and pair it stylishly! Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any doubts, I’ll be quick to help you in your style dilemma! I like the flare cut, along with the bootleg and the boyfriend jean. and cropped but skinny jeans not so much. They look great in a dark denim wash. : )
