Marc Jacobs is a famous case of turning the hip up on the tattoo market. Of course there’s more to mention on the celeb-tattoo camp, but I’ll keep it strictly to designers.
Because they influence our lives, because they can, because everything they touch in design and about design is crucial to many fashionistas. Yves Saint Laurent’s controversial Stefano Pilati understood the power of florals this season so he decided to bloom a new tattoo on his arm. (the story continues after the jump)
I’m not sure how that fits into his new Franciscan look, but I’m really curious to see how it will translate into his collections. Maybe the YSL Tributes’ blue soles will turn into flower printed soles next. Is it just me, or it looks like the new bouquet tattoo on Pilati’s arm is covering an older tattoo? (photos via)

Hard to say if it’s a cover-up job … but that color work is GORGEOUS!
I think it’s nice, as a whole…Marc Jacobs’ tattoos on the other, are atrocious in selection and positioning.
That is a beautifully done sleeve! The colours and the art work are stunning and vivid. : )
These designers are just followers. Sorry…..I’ve seen something like this before. My favourite (Dutch) rock singer has since years such a gorgeous sleeve.
This one is also beautiful done by a real tattoo artist.

Whoa, thanks Adriana! I had no idea about Anouk’s tattoo (and her children) if it wasn’t for you (and this Pilati article) ;)
But you’re all in awe about Pilati’s sleeve so I have to give in to the majority – I agree, it’s a beautifully executed tattoo. But I’m so over body-ink-works that I can’t fully appreciate its beauty. At some point, the ink fades away and the drawing becomes ghostly ordinary.
But Marc Jacobs and his scattered tattoos are indeed chaotically tasteless.
I do wonder what all these people shall look like in in say 10 years? I see a lot off old tattoos and they look afwul. Even Anouk’s sleeve looks less beautiful than some years ago. She has gained weigth, which is fine, she looks still great and she is a mother of three! But gaining weight stretches the skin too…..so that also damages the tattoo. I’ve read the ink dissapears into the body…..arrgghh….
I’m very happy I could resist the temptation to get one! And oh, how I’ve been tempted…..
