When you’re at the appropriate age to play someone’s mother or someone’s grandmother, in Hollywood you’re entering another stage of your career. Where you’re joining a long list of very talented actresses who stood the test of time and got better at their game.
This is yet another game they’re really good at: fashion! In the wise words of Ari Seth Cohen whose eponymous blog consistently reports on the silver age of fashion, here’s the ‘advance style’ wonderfully represented on the 2014 Oscars Red Carpet:
Meryl Streep wearing Lanvin black and white ensemble at 2014 Oscars
I’m starting with Meryl not because she’s been nominated 18 times for an Oscar Award, but because she’s my favorite! Her energy, her beauty, her talent and her style has made her a steady reference in my Red Carpet reports throughout the years and events!
Her most important asset: grace and intelligence. Her most flattering pose: her amazing wide smile! Her most distinctive style signature: skirt-blouse combos or anything with pockets!

Bette Midler wearing Reem Acra red lace dress at 2014 Oscars
Yet another grand lady of cinema, Bette Midler was looking glamorous and perfect in her red lace Reem Acra dress! Hardly a dress you can overlook on the Red Carpet, it was fresh off the runway from the Fall 2014 collection! Bette changed, though, for her stage appearance and slipped into a classic dress, also with red hues.
Glenn Close wearing Zac Posen black dress at 2014 Oscars
What a great actress! Powerful, versatile and dramatic! She was wearing a black textured mermaid-esque dress with matching bolero, all from Zac Posen’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection and she looked fabulous!
Also in black was Sally Field, who presented at this edition of the Oscars, just like Whoopi Goldberg who took a lesson from Julia Robert’s fashion book and wearing a white shirt-strapless black dress combo. The wonderful Alfre Woodard chose a dark blue Escada dress with lace décolleté.

June Squibb wearing Tadashi Shoji green dress at 2014 Oscars
An amazing actress who just made Oscars history by being the eldest actress to be nominated for an award, at 84-year-old! She was bold in her fashion choice wearing a stylish look from Tadashi Shoji and smiling bright and happily!
Cheryl Boone Isaacs (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president) was fabulous in a grey lace dress, (the real Philomena having inspired the eponymous movie, nominated at this year’s Oscars edition) Philomena Lee was so graceful in red while Liza Minnelli was glowing in a cobalt blue pants ensemble.
Goldie Hawn wearing silky Versace buttery dress
Goldie Hawn was also invited and she was looking as beautiful as always, shining in a silky buttery dress with crystal details. Next to her, just as beamy and happy, her partner, Kurt Russell – what a beautiful couple!
So many actors and actresses came with their mothers at this most glamorous event: I mentioned Charlize’s mother earlier, but Michael Fassbender and Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto were also attending with their respective mothers! I love that and I wish more people would extend the courtesy of inviting their parents, whenever possible, to various events! (images getty, styledotcom)

Jared Leto’s mother is gorgeous! I watched the show, Jared’s homage to his mother who was a single teen mother was so beautiful, so sweet I have admit he made me cry….OK, the dresses.
Bette Midler and one of fave actors Alfre Woodward looked good. Love them. Are they that old? Need to google that then.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, whatever they wear I don’t care they are one of the best Hollywood couples. Just love them as they are.
I just loved June Squibb and her quirky, fun personality made her look gorgeous in her green gltterz. Gosh, she’s 85!! Imagine having a life like her still having fun and be a working woman? YOWSA!!
One day baby we’ll be old, oh baby, we’ll be old think of all the stories…….all of us……also you who might read this….;) :)
