If you keep reading reports saying that nail art is dead and you should all keep but one nail polish color in your stash and that is the transparent lacquer: don’t believe them! It’s marketing speculation!
Basically, saying that nail art is dead, is like saying that creativity and freedom of expression are dead as well. Are they? Here’s the Red Carpet Nails some of our beloved celebrities wore last night, at the 71th Golden Globes Awards Ceremony!
Monica Potter 2014 Golden Globes Nails: My absolute favorite nails of the night! Monica is starring in the TV show Parenthood but that’s completely besides the nails point! She was wearing a maxi dress by Romona Keveza with black skirt and gold sequined top and matching nails!
How to obtain the same look as Monica Potter: simply paint your nails a dark color as a base, allow it to dry and then apply glitter polish in a contrasting color, only on the tips, tipping just a few drops towards the middle of the nail to create the ‘gradient’ effect. Monica chose a dark grey topped with a gold glitter gradient but you’re only bound by your imagination in achieving a similar look, with different colors!
Zooey Deschanel 2014 Golden Globes Nails : she had to wear something special, so you won’t be disappointed when you see that lovely Zooey matched her fabulous Oscar de la Renta dress with her OdlRenta shoes and her daisy nails!
How to obtain the same look as Zooey Deschanel: paint your nails a transparent base (like the ones used for French manicure, for this is, actually a French manicure!). Use a buttery white polish to create the smile line along the tip of the nail. Then double that with a very thin line of gold glitter or shimmer polish.
For the daisy petals, you need a narrow striper brush, as the one used for nail art or a dotting tool, a needle or a toothpick. Dipping it in crispy white polish, you will create each petal around a gold polish center. Then either apply a big golden bead like the one Zooey is wearing or simply a generous dollop of gold glitter, wait for it to dry a bit and then apply the top coat or the quickdry topcoat and you’re done!
Dark nails as worn by Rashida Jones (a deep dark burgundy on very short nails), Reese Witherspoon (a rich chocolate brown on short nails), Jennifer Lawrence (also a very dark chocolate brown), Lena Dunham (rich dark red on short nails).
Black nails as worn by Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Mann and Zoe Saldana. There’s something about Zoe’s nails, though: although she only said/shown on mani cam her right hand, on her left hand ring finger, there where her wedding ring is (yes, she’s married to Marco Perego), a glittery accent could be seen when she’s hugging Chris Pine… What would that accent be? A simple coat of silver flakies (irregular shiny particles in a transparent polish base) or more?
Red nails as worn by Jenna Dewan Tatum, Jessica Chastain.
Neutral nails: grey nails as worn by Camila Alves and Louise Roe, grey-green as worn by Kaley Cuoco and beige nails as worn by Heidi Klum, Anna Gunn, Amber Heard, Lupita Nyong, Melissa Rauch, Sarah Hyland.
A special mention to Dame Helen Mirren who paired her emerald green dress with soft pink nails – what a wonderful combination! (images getty, style.com)

I love Lupita;s gown more than her nails but her whole look was perfect all round!
I also love Zoe Saldana’s fashion choice, she is always never boring!
Kpriss I do wish you did a focus on the gown and style choices of the mature and stylish women at the event.
I would love to see a composite of Helen Mirren, Diane Keaton, Jacqueline Bisset, Jessica Lang and others. Style is for everyone. Lets see it and celebrate it! : )
I will try, Ellington! I just wish more photos of them would be available to make a decent coverage. But I’ll keep an eye out for them, definitely! And thank you for the suggestion!
I like Zoe’s choices both in her real life and in her Red Carpet appearances. And I’m happy she moved on with her life (further than Cooper, that is). ;)
I think that Zoe is ok. She apparently got married to a Spanish Artist last year. : )
