What a night, huh? The 2013 Golden Globes! A year’s work in movies immersed in a sea of sequins, leg slits more or less boring speeches but a lot of glamour! So many people, so many awards and not enough time to talk about them all! It seems like the night just went away in a second – I could actually watch reruns and Red Carpet flashes for hours!
I can only imagine how I’ll feel after the Oscars! But the honest truth is that I love movies. Big screen or small screen, I really love them all with unhidden, undissimulated passion. And I love the tremendous work that’s being constantly poured in, I love the oh – so talented individuals who wear their many character’s costumes all year long and for several nights, they get to enchant us all with their glam Red Carpet parade.
But tonight, what I love most was Jodie Foster. Her brilliance, her honesty, her humor, her drama, her incredible blue yes, her trademark bob, her speech and her custom made Armani blue dress!
Because my dahlings, beyond the Red Carpet drama, the most fashionable talk after this edition of the Golden Globes will be Jodie Foster’s Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech (just in case you want to ruminate more on what she said, the transcript is here). Probably also because it was by far the longest of the night. Either the prompter was malfunctioning or Jodie simply ignored the ‘Wrapped it up’ warnings that other awards winners had to follow.
Then again, after an outstanding career of no less than 47 years in the industry, it’s really hard to command Jodie Foster. Now about her Armani dress: it’s hybrid with parts of Giorgio Armani’s Spring 2013 and Spring 2011 collections. At least that’s what it looked like to my amateur eye. If you have more details, don’t hesitate in adding them in the comments section!
I’d like to make a special mention for Kate Hudson’s dress at this 2013 edition of the Golden Globes. Kate usually strikes me as a dull fashion person on the Red Carpet. Not this time, though! Although she went for a safely maxi black dress, Kate really looked fabulous in her Alexander McQueen belted black beauty with deep cutout cleavage. The neck golden detailing on her neck was simply stunning, saving the entire dress from a dull mess.
Nicole Kidman was also wearing a black Alexander McQueen dress. What an interesting night it was for the Kidman – Urban couple as they were both nominated in two different categories! None won, though (Nicole lost to Jennifer Lawrence and Keith to Adele) but they made a charming Red Carpet couple as always!
Speaking of Keith and Adele’s won: have you seen Jennifer Lopez tonight? (she presented the Best Original Song category) I know I usually say that style consistency is good, right? But in JLo’s case is not. It’s boring! I wonder if she thought she wasn’t boring because she was bringing her new toyboy to the table, but actually that doubles the boring part! I’m sorry Jennifer Lopez, but your lace see – through Zuhair Murad dress is more like last – era fashion, not just last season! Please update?
Talking about last season: meet the Donna Karan girls! Debra Messing’s black Donna Karan dress looked just like a curtain while Taylor Swift’s maroon dress was just average, despite of its low back cut and matching jewelry.
Alexandre Vauthier dressed two girls tonight: Heidi Klum and Michelle Dockery. While Heidi’s dress was more on the ‘meh’ side with her dramatic leg slit and one shoulder design, Michelle Dockery’s, on the other hand, was really special. It actually reminded me of a McQueen piece (which I don’t think it’s that good for Alexandre Vauthier).
Oh, I have to take this off of my chest: have you seen what Marion Cotillard was wearing? She was back at her Dior usuals, in a tangerine asymmetrical dress with matching shoes. I’m thinking someone must’ve talked her into wearing this orangey mess, because in no circumstances does this matches lady Marion!
Rachel Weisz was also wearing a strange looking gown, although signed Louis Vuitton. It’ll be long before I accept dresses with half see through skirts. They just look like two separate dresses in my head and while I have nothing against layering, this kind of cut does nothing to me. I did liked Rachel and husband Daniel Craig coupling up on the Red Carpet.
Naomi Watts was wearing Zac Posen! Can you believe that? Naomi a Posen girl? Also in Posen was Kelly Osbourne who went for the designer’s trademark mermaid tail thingie and Lena Dunham who, I think, already is on most of the ‘worst dressed’ lists of the night.
Eva Longoria was clearly better dressed than earlier at the Critics Choice Awards in a black Emilio Pucci dress and Amanda Seyfried was dressed in Givenchy. Although it looked really average from where I stood.
Now for the rest of the dresses, I wish I had more time to discuss them all – each deserves its time and topic: for instance, have you noticed that Catherine Zeta – Jones and pregnant Kristen Bell wore very similar Jenny Packham dresses? Luckily they weren’t presenting on stage at the same time!
(wink) see, I’m at again! Jessica Alba was peachy in Oscar de la Renta (a special mention goes to her fluffy Roger Vivier clutch). Megan Fox made her Red Carpet return in Dolce & Gabbana, looking all glam as usual. My favorite, going against all trends and maxi styles: the very beautiful Thandie Newton in Giles dress! Who was your favorite? Or – better said – whose dress would you like to discuss? (oh, and please, a round of applause for Ben Affleck’s Red Carpet dance?) (images Getty; styledotcom)

I miss Sienna Miller’s refreshing two piece by Erdem. I loved it right away when she showed up on the red carpet. One of my faves.
Glad to see Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier which I adored also at first sight.
Nicole Kidman looks great in McQueen but Kate Hudson…I don’t know….it’s still Beverly Hills tries to be stylish. In my never humble opinion.
Naomie Watts also breathtaking in Zac Posen and nice to see how she’s still looking natural ageing. Not to forget Julianne Moore in Tom Ford. Since I saw photos of Julianne in the sea in a two piece bathing suit I saw the masterpiece of design Ford. Maybe some spanx help, no I’m not bashing Julianne I would have chose that too. Awesome!
Doesn’t matter what Jodie wears. She looked great and her speech was great. Some celebrities and their announcements and fragrances and other blahblah: take note!!
Man of the evening was of course Ben Affleck. I always believed in Affleck’s talent besides he’s good looking (a terrible flirt though I’m afraid.) Even in his troubled days.
I loved Spielberg trying to look like a good sport. He didn’t do well. I found the choice to let Bill Clinton announce that movie not tasteful. I assume I can not relate to that because I am not an American. Mr Spielberg has lost my empathy because he abuses his power: Megan Fox is still around. :P Although she wore mega taxfrauds Italian Dolce&Gabbana. Ban them!!Their country is in terrible need…and so “our union”…..ugh…..yes,darlings everything is politics whether you like it or not.
I am done with this red carpet though I probably forgot something. It’s enough right? The Oscars are going to be boring. ;)
Sorry….Marion Cotillard in Raf Simon’s. and simple make-up and hair again….<3
Jodie Foster only ever wears Armani. She looked nice as always.
I love Rachel Weisz’s hair,it looked just way nifty!
And Marion Cotillard is just lovely. : )
Everyone to me looked red carpet normal, nothing really memorable or spectacular. But I will say that I LOVED Lucy Lui’s gown. It was the BEST gown of all that I have seen. : )
Oh and Thandie Newton who is always one of my favourite actors looked lovely and cute in her dress. : )
Personally it was a huge yawnfest! Although my interest was slightly sparked by Thandie Newton, Lucy Lui & Jessica Alba – they don’t seem to live to be famous & I admire that. But a movie star in couture on the red carpet seems to be as common as mud!
PS. Also I like Jodie Foster for being above the hollywood machine & beating it!
