Angelina Jolie’s Chocolate Brown Atelier Versace Dress For Cannes 2011

I’ve waited for this since the first day Cannes 2011 started! Angelina Jolie walking the Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet is definitely something one shouldn’t miss. Especially if you’re used to Angelina wearing black, white and anything gray-ish inbetween.

Angelina Jolie in chocolate brown Atelier Versace dress walks the Cannes Red Carpet at Brad Pitt’s side for the premiere of his latest movie, The Tree of Life (which received mixed reviews but stands as a masterpiece because of its director, Terrence Malik, also known for “The New World”). Just a word about Brad Pitt, though – what’s up with the shades? And the haircut? Getting back to Angelina – the dark chocolate brown dress is something unusual for Angelina, however, the cut is not.

She’s loving Atelier Versace, we’ve seen her wearing gowns from the label before. Not to mention the dramatic leg slit! Something less theatrically dramatic, maybe, would’ve been better, but she looks gorgeous and, most of all, I love her radiance. She looks like she’s glowing from the inside… Isn’t she? They truely have major star wattage & I am not even a fan! The dress is a spectacular fashion moment. AJ has great personal style IMO.

She reads Stylefrizz: she smiles!! :)
Gorgeous dress and I love the colour. Atelier Versace makes grande couture.

#3 ajginger on 05.16.11 at 4:08 pm

Oh Brad’s hair, I seen him on casual photos where it looks far better, different style, but I guess not for red carpets next to that grande dress? And of late he wears shades all the time. Just as Johnny Depp by the way. Whose face looked different and he wore a totally worned out hat??

i like her dress. it’s simple, elegant yet very sexy. and you are right, she is glowing and her skin is flawless! she owned that premiere even if she’s not even part of the movie! LOL!

wow Chocolate Dress this is Yummy :P

#6 ajginger on 05.17.11 at 4:35 am

nancy, lol! She ‘owned’ that premiere because the movie itself did not get that great reviews! Possibly she saved France too for that one night?

Angie is stunning.She is sexy,smart ,beautiful.I love her .

#8 Ellington on 05.17.11 at 11:41 am

I think that dress is a wonder of a cut and colour on her! She looks stunning and she and Brad look real and together. : )

Sorry, I read a cynical remark made by me…..:”>

hmmm… nice site and wow!… decent posters, i can’t believe it. btw, she looks good in that dress.

p.s. i am not sarcastic, i just found it strange that the posters here are so nice, than most of the sites i’ve visited.perhaps, it just happened, that no vile or nasty posters today?…am i wrong?…sorry, this is my 1st time .

#11 Ellington on 05.18.11 at 7:36 pm

Hi dcjean! : )
I hope that you stay! Everyone who posts here is, nice, fair and not snarky. And Kpriss who runs this blog is really lovely!
I hope that you post more often!

Best Wishes.
Ellington : )

The color of the dress isn’t “chocolate brown”. Brad Pitt was asked about the color in interviews on Tuesday and he said it was eggplant.

Whatever the color was Jolie looked splendid in it and absolutely owned the Croisette and everyone in the crowd. The photographers were all but drooling – and Pitt couldn’t have been prouder of his lady love.

#13 kpriss on 05.18.11 at 11:47 pm

thanks DB Cooper! Hey, at least we saw it wasn’t black! ;) wherever I would turn my head, everyone was writing about how coordinated Angelina and Brad were on the Red Carpet, both wearing black! ;) . So it’s eggplant, then? (I may have a sweet tooth , but I really liked it when it was “chocolate brown”! ;) )

@dcjean welcome! thank you for your sweet words. I too, like Ellington, wish you come back and join the “nice stylefrizz people club” ;)

@Nancy, Ellington, keiko, Paul, sarah – the lady was flawless! What I’m loving about Angelina’s style is that no matter what she’s wearing, is she who’s wearing the clothes, not the other way around. Which cannot be said about many people, especially on the celeb side! (isn’t it so?)

@ajginger I read that the Tree of Life wasn’t too acclaimed by the critics. However, it is the public who will have the final ruling and sometimes, critics are snobbing good movies because of the star studded cast. They did it so many times before, I’m tired of movie reviewers who end up criticizing just because. Movies are supposed to be entertaining. Entertainment is (almost never) about philosophy and depth. It’s about what looks good on the movie poster and on the big screen. Whoever brings the bucks, gets the role. Right?

Either way, I loved your Depp comparison! I didn’t look at things this way, but ever since you mentioned it, I can’t see Brad and think of anything else other that he’s trying to copy Depp. But then again, we’ve seen Brad going through so many makeovers over the years, I’m curious what’ll be next. Gaga, maybe? (hihihi – evil laugh – hihihihi)

#14 keiko on 05.19.11 at 12:12 am

The one thing about Angelina (& Kate Moss for that matter) is that she totally gets fashion. It is about what I like & how I wear it! Not who I am seen with (Blake I am talking about you)or what I’m seen wearing (any actress working today).
Interesting how her fashion choices are above & beyond the runway!

#15 ajginger on 05.19.11 at 1:36 am

Kpriss, ha, you see the Johnny Depp resemblance of late too? Remarkable right? Johnny has been always Johnny. But this is about Brad and you are right again. Gaga! Oohhh……lol!
But seriously, I have to say that I read reviews by critics I take very seriously, they have the taste and view I have. I do not copy what they say neither do I always agree but they weren’t mean. Disappointed would be a better word. They told the film was boo-ed.

Eggplant? I have to find an eggplant photo then. I still see chocolate brown. But what does it really matter: grande couture it is.

Further; I saw a great photo of Angelina after the party ‘dishevelled’ as that (tabloid) newspaper site said, well, we all would love to look ‘dishevelled” that way after a party and being tired. I do!! I certainly do. I loved that portrait. I swear it, I am not kidding neither am I snarly!!

#16 ajginger on 05.19.11 at 1:40 am

Hello dcjean: someone said some time ago about posts on the internet that it is like a garbage can. True words spoken right. That is why I love this place; it is Stylefresh! ;)

#17 ajginger on 05.19.11 at 2:30 am

Oh, an eggplant is an ‘aubergine’!! I am Dutch and learnt something new. I think ‘aubergine’ sounds far more lovelier? Plus I love ‘aubergines’ we took over the French word as we did with many words since the French occupation.

#18 keiko on 05.20.11 at 8:50 pm

Yes everyone is on their tippy toes being very nice about Angelina Jolie! I have noticed there are a few celebrities (the others being Michelle Obama & Kristen Stewart) that if a negative comment is posted – people go crazy (all over the web – not just stylefrizz)! So it is best to state the positive then to start a avalanche of arguments.

#19 kpriss on 05.20.11 at 11:36 pm

@ajginger – I actually looked for the Pantone eggplant and brown or chocolate and while it may be my laptop screen (just to give Brad some credit) – eggplant was way purple-y than Angelina-s dress. But who are we to judge after all? We’re happy it wasn’t a black / white / gray like she used to wear.

as for the dailyfail, as some call it – I wouldn’t want people to see me coming home from a party! Disheveled would be a nice description! They tend to point out the smallest thing, just to pick up a story. And a lawsuit ;) The most persevering hairdo and makeup don’t last for that long without showing signs of fatigue. And if we like to have fun to the parties we attend to, why wouldn’t the celebrity do the same?

@keiko oooooh I see now! So I’m on my tippy toes about Angelina? (at least I know I’m not there with Kristen Stewart ;) ) Fact is I really liked the woman before she got into her Brad era. Actually I liked her more before her Brad era. I liked her non – conventional , almost uninspired way of dressing on the Red Carpet, I admired her physical features (who didn’t?) and enjoyed her acting (who can disagree?). She’s a fascinating woman, strong, beautiful and accomplished. However, if there’s something I don’t like, I fear not raising my voice and pointing it !(remember her vintage tent of a dress for a Red Carpet appearance? I wrote about it here and I wasn’t too pleased ;) . Or her white Akris suit from a movie premiere? Matched with that atrocious matronlish hairdo? I was not on my tippy toes there!)

(oh, how I love talking to you! :* )

#20 ajginger on 05.21.11 at 5:35 am

keiko, it is well known here that I am not Angelina’s biggest fan. I have been just like Kpriss. And it is not because Brad left Jennifer. She is always the same in films. Angie and her gun looking hot. Yaaawnn…..her films are not interesting either. It is well known her films have not the great profits due to an audience whom get bored too I guess? Plus these two still can not convince me with their happy attitude. But I can not go on and on about it. One day it’s done. Enough. But I love that dress!! I can not stop staring at it. I have a fashion education you see so I keep on trying to figure out how they did it. Pattern cuts and moulage are not that easy…I see a master hand here. That fascinates me.

Hihi, the ‘Dailyfail’ is my guilty pleasure but I have not been there (yet) today. ;)

#21 ajginger on 05.21.11 at 5:39 am

Oh, the colour of the dress: it is chocolate brown on everyone’s screen I believe? I moved my screen a lot because that changes colours: it stays chocolate brown also on the photo at the ‘Dailyfail’ site and somewhere else too. I love that one ‘dailyfail’! :D

Pantone eggplant? Let’s google then. :)

#22 keiko on 05.21.11 at 6:44 am

Eeek – my bad! It is just an observation I have made about Angelina & the persona she has cultivated. She is universally admired for being a strong accomplished woman.
So is it okay that I comment that Angelina is too smug & contrived for me – but she does great fashion! Ps I think Brad looks miserable.
Also I luv the spirited & passionate responses – that’s a conversation I look forward too!

#23 keiko on 05.21.11 at 7:24 am

Please delete my comment thanks – I am not really interested in Angelina & am remarking for the sake of it. :*) Zzzz

#24 ajginger on 05.21.11 at 7:54 am

Nah? Come on keiko :D ;)

Oh, visited the ‘dailyfail’ more dresses and Claudia Schiffer looks like a skeleton, shocking. Makes her look old.
I liked Gwen Stefani in Armani Privé. Fun girl she is.

Have a nice weekend people it’s my time I am allowed to sit in the sun for a bit. :))

#25 kpriss on 05.21.11 at 11:52 am

@keiko if it is your wish to delete it, so I will! But I was looking forward for this, especially since you touched some very sensitive points in your comment: I happen to think that Brad looks miserable too ;) consumed is the word I used, in fact.

As for Angelina – she’s something else in the celebrity world. However, as any other celebrity, is directed by her agent, her industry of managers and Lord knows what else. So whenever there Internet abounds in news about she and Brad breaking up, they make a public appearance, together, with the kids, in New Orleans or somewhere else. I remember a time when they were saying that the twins weren’t good, that they weren’t healthy so a week later they were out with the twins.

Also – am I the only one who thinks Angelina looked better at Billy Bob’s side?

@ajginger – come ooooooon! I was just warming up?! so you think her movies are not that good? I think they’re good for what they were made to do. She’s no Jodie Foster, but she’s good at what she does. Isn’t she? I’m so curious about that war film she did!

Have a great weekend yourself, sweetie! :*

#26 Ellington on 05.21.11 at 12:44 pm

I have always liked Angelina before and during Brad and her children, it is not a matter of being on one’s tippy toes with her.
As for the others you mentioned I have no interest in them so therefore I have no comment.
If one cannot say nothing nice, say nothing at all.

#27 nancy on 05.22.11 at 3:04 pm

does anyone know where I could get a similar dress to this?

#28 ajginger on 05.22.11 at 3:45 pm

nancy, ha, the one that is able to make a rip-off of this dress must have a masterhand otherwise it shall not look at all like this dress. How much do you pay me? It will me take me long time to produce it that perfect…;)

Something else: just watched a short Cannes Journal: Terence Malick’s ‘Tree of Life’ won the Palme d’ Or in Cannes. Saw Brad Pitt interviewed and I missed something in his attitude…can not explain it….Ironical enough but good attitude from the jury with chairman Robert de Niro let Kirsten Dunst win for best Actress in Lars von Trier’s ‘Melanancholia’ and she made a good speech. Also saw von Trier interviewed; now I got some thinking to do because I condemned him yet…yes, this was about a chocolate brown or aubergine dress, I am aware of that. But Angelina wouldn’t have been able to show this off if not for great films which Cannes usually provide. In my opinion…..but ain’t that a fact? ;) :)

#29 ajginger on 05.22.11 at 3:55 pm

Kpriss, yes Angelina is good at what she does but it is not my taste in the film parts she usually plays. I loved ‘Gia’ made for television but good enough for the big screen and I loved ‘Girl Interrupted”. But other films…she is always the same. At least to me. Once she was really funny in that film -can not- come up with the name where she was a blonde. Surprising. But even in ‘A Mighty Heart’ which was a great film as a whole I liked supporting actress Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife’s Kalinda and the elder sister in Bend It Like Beckham) far more……

#30 kpriss on 05.23.11 at 11:33 pm

So it didn’t help much to boo the Tree of Life! Let alone Lars von Trier making those awkward comments…

As for Melancholia, I can’t wait to see it! The same goes for The Tree of Life. And also the Beaver? Cannes and great movies, yes, it seems to be a tradition. Hollywood is more about showing off and blockbusters, big bucks on big effects more than heartfelt cinematography.

Angelina and her “always the same” action movies – that fits her. More than cerebral, dramas. I think. She’s a good actress, though, but people love watching her jump, sweat, shoot…

@nancy – I think it would be best if you took a picture of this dress to a seamstress? If she knows exactly how to pull the look, then go with her, but remember, they call it Haute Couture for a reason ;) in the end, the seamstress’ vision about the dress may be slightly different from the original.. But good luck, nevertheless!

#31 ajginger on 05.24.11 at 5:26 am

There are many Palme d’ Or films no one ever heard about anymore than insiders after the festival ended. It is a Terence Malick film though. And with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn; so who knows? Penn couldn’t save The Thin Blue Line really either did he? I loved that film though as I loved Days of Heaven. What I saw of Tree of Life is that same approach of the beauty of nature and the slowness Malick use. So who knows I am going to like Tree of Life?
The Dutch Cannes Journal showed something interesting I never knew about. Malick doesn’t show up ever in public. But he is in one of his own films, the masterpiece and definitely my favorite Malick: ‘Badlands’ as a cameo! They showed it. As a salesman whom knock on the door and a very young handsome Martin Sheen opens the door. They have a short conversation. I found it awesome and wishes I recorded it…..

#32 nancy on 05.24.11 at 7:31 am

Thank you kpriss! That actually helped. I might just do that. The dress is just WAY too beautiful to not have. x]

She looks AMAZING! Thank God the girl put on a little weight, because she was getting mad skinny for a bit.
