Frankie Goes To Hollywood Relax

Can you believe I never actually included this song? Despite of referencing numerous times the Zoolander and its brilliancy?

So it’s time for some glorious modeling memories brought to us by the one and only Derek Zoolander by means of Frankie Goes to Hollywood and their notoriously controversial Relax. I hope you had a wonderful week, and that this first weekend from December will bring the Christmas spirit closer to you. If you want more information about the song, do click through. Enjoy!

I will keep this to a minimum because, as you’ve probably heard, this song is pretty much explicit. It was released in 1983 on the band’s first album, Welcome to the Pleasuredome. It only reached high charts positions in 1984 and 1985 and ever since, due to its controversial lyrics is a steady play list rotation piece. Featured in movies like Body Double, Police Academy, it actually received a weird connotation for its explicit lyrics in Zoolander. It was meant to trigger Derek Zoolander, the main character, a male model, to take someone’s life during a fashion show. The brainwash, as it was, you can see it below.

Though it wasn’t pointing in the intimate direction, like all those times it was used before, Zoolander doesn’t do any positive justice to the song, also investing it with negative vibes and connotations. (if you want to know more about Relax, you can do so by reading here)

Awesome! We danced on it until the ’90’s and still when I hear it I feel the dance moves itching.
Ah Kpriss, we Dutch are not easily shocked by explicit lyrics. Until now, hopes we’re able to hold on to that freedom…..I loved their follow-up hit “Two Tribes” too.
Zoolander, I re-watched it like two years ago and still lol’d. It looks so outdated in this video while Frankie and Co still looks and sound great. So it’s a definite classic. Great post lady! Gosh, I told ya before: I would love to listen to all sorts of music with you :-)

I loath this song and FGTH but I have to admit that watching Mugato hypnotise Zoolander to this tune made me laugh. :)
A happy week to you Kpriss and to everyone. : )
