Elizabeth And James Spring 2009

It’s a known fact that the line between sublime and ridiculous is so fine. Playing dress up when you’re growing up is part of life. A true fashionista started her career doing Barbie (or whatever dolls) collections.

Luckily, a serious percentage of safe fashionistas grow up to the level of grown up clothing collections. Not Barbie inspired. Not Barbie wearable (see Beyonce’s last Barbie-mermaid outfit). Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen conduct a fashion brand successfully crossed over to the ridiculous Barbie-ish side of things with this Elizabeth and James Spring 2009 collection. (don’t miss the rest right after the jump! Be sure to check out the gallery with all the pictures!)

Elizabeth and James Summer 2009

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen have Elizabeth and James. We have our eyes and judgment to decide whether we choose to look like Peter Pan’s elite group from Neverland and refuse to grow up or we simply overlook the loss of material and work hours put into this brand.

If you were tempted to believe that dissing Elizabeth and James is an affront to the stars themselves, think again! On the very Elizabeth and James website, on the About page is written black on white that Ashley and Mary-Kate “act as muses and co-designers” for the infamous label. Put them in the same drawer as Chloe Sevigny’s Open Ceremony collection and my world would look so much better! How about yours?

I don’t know why but when ever I think of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen I think of the those two little Japanese twin girls who lived in a magic clam shell and spoke to Mothra, Godzilla or Rodan.
The clothes will find a home and people to love them, until the thrill is gone.

that coral blazer is delightful. the shapes and silhouettes of their pieces are lovely and the colors and innovative and fresh, this range looks interesting.

The clothig is okay, but the props and toys ruin the effect.
