Chanel Sport Collection 2008 Ad Campaign

Sport equals tradition chez Chanel. Remember Coco Chanel saying
“I invented sport suits for me. Not because other women were playing sports, but because I was playing them.”

After breaking trough with Chanel Ski and Chanel Bike, this summer it all seems to turn autour tennis.

Chanel Sport Collection 2008 Ad Campaign
Though it’s expected to find cycling outfits and/or accessories, this first picture from the spring-summer 2008 Chanel sport collection let’s us in on a fifties world of white sports (including a surfing board we see just between the two models).

The collection hits stores on May. What is there to say about it? I’d love to have a Chanel bike, for instance, but I wouldn’t give that for a professional bike either.

I would love to join the tennis court in Chanel from tip to toes, but what tennis would that be without my Wilson or my Head? I don’t trade years of experience in a field for fashion if I mean business.

So it’s good news for the jetsetters, I presume, but I stick with pros. What about you? Do you think it’s worth it? Sports and haute couture together? Or it’s all about image?

Today’s Crush: Pictures from the Nordstrom 2008 Spring-Summer Ad Campaign

Ruben Toledo and Ruven Afandor joined hands to make this beautiful ad campaign for the Nordstrom retailer. Toledo painted some walls to create black and white surrealistic images but he also painted the models.

Here are some of the thoughts of the people involved (and the images, of course).

Nordstrom Spring-Summer 2008 Ads

“It’s one thing to say that fashion and art go together and to show it by putting a model in an art gallery. We knew we didn’t want to do that and we knew Ruben’s artwork needed to be more than just a backdrop. Instead, what Ruben and Ruven came up with truly fused art and photography. The art became the environment–transcending the very idea of a backdrop. The result truly exceeded our expectations.” said Linda Finn, executive vice president of marketing at Nordstrom

The campaign featuring Lily Cole, Jenny Sweeny and Kiera Gormley will hit magazines (Elle, Vanity Fair and Vogue) in the March issues.

Nordstrom Spring-Summer 2008 Campaign

“Making art for the images of the ad campaign was really an art happening for me–the walls I painted on were 20 feet tall by 30 feet long and each scene contained three walls plus the floor! Each painting was painted over by the next and when I work this fast, the energy for me comes from everyone around,” he added. “It has to truly be a collaboration with everyone involved and in fact that is what great fashion or art is really about for me.” confessed Toledo about the campaign

I love the pictures! It seems more to me like art than commercial consciousness in this campaign. What do you say?

Jennifer Lopez Has a Designer Gown for Delivery

Ever witness a delivery? At least in movies or documentaries, and I still hope your answer is positive. And therefore you should know that a delivery has nothing to do with style, fashion and being tip top.

Well now, stars have their own way of delivering their babies. Besides having a C-section for the large majority of celebrities-mums (corroborated with liposuctions and slightly modifying interventions), now here’s the latest – designer delivery gowns. Like omg! I could have my own Elie Saab when delivering my precious little baby!!!

Jennifer Lopez confirming her pregnancy on stage with Marc Anthony

Excuse me for being so straight forward, but aren’t they going too far? Not only JLo’s pulling her hibernation thing for these last months, now rumors state that she’s going for a DearJohnnies delivery gown with coordinated blankets (and two more additional delivery gowns). Since one of them delivery gowns is about $65 and a robe about $70, plus let’s say 2 blankets at $26 each we’re talking at least $317 for the minimal approximation. That’s living in style, not delivering in style.

Dearjohnnies Lucy Delivery Gown

As for me, if we talk delivery, then we talk delivery, not a spa-session! I’m there to do that and then get back home to my family with the new baby as soon as possible and all in perfect health!

What do you think? Would you have (if possible) a designer delivery gown? Or it’s too much even when having the money since we’re talking about a moment that’s way beyond material?

Swarovski’s Unbridaled: The Marriage of Tradition and Avant-Garde

The 25th and 26th of January, a very haute-couture event took place at the l’Hotel de la Monnaie. This special event was occasioned by Swarovski and it was all about marriage. Even if you’re a skeptical, I recommend you take interest in this exhibition because it’s all about fashion first of all.

“Crystallized” is the new brand of Swarovski products meaning to be promoted with this event where over 100 designers created unique bridal gowns and accessories with crystals.

The dazzling fruits of this major collaboration with world-class creative talents combine to provide an all-encompassing interpretation of modern marriage – a glamorous tableau in which every girl’s romantic fantasy becomes extravagant and gorgeous reality.

The show is supposed to be exported in New York before hitting Japan. But most of all, the show gave 50 representative dresses to make Unbridaled: The Marriage of Tradition and Avant Garde the book available from April 1 2008.

I chose some of the pictures available: Alberto Rodriguez creation, Julian MacDonald’s dress, Vera Wang’s gown, Armani Prive jacket and dress, Dries Van Noten, Zandra Rhodes and Galliano.
What do you say? Is white overrated? Or fairytales are always welcomed to join a marriage day?

Twiggy Interiors Soon Available

After giving a helping hand (or name, to be more exact) to giant retailer Marks&Spencer, Twiggy is making her name a brand in interior design.

Word is that the sixties fashion icon designed her own range of interiors and soon we’ll have Twiggy spoons or Twiggy mugs to delight our tables and Twiggy scented candles and Twiggy soft furnishings to light up our rooms.

Twiggy interior
Can’t wait to see what they’ll look like! I wonder if it involves any sixties inspiration or it will just be all about the branding and all art sacrificed. It would be really sad!

What do you say? Have you any word on how the designs will be?

JanSport Artist Series Backpacks for April 2008 Preview

Since everyone’s into bags nowadays, here’s JanSport version of limited-edition collection.

This special edition of backpacks was designed by illustrator Julie West (you can easily find her work on flickr) and graffiti artist JoeX2.

JanSport Artist Series Backpacks

The limited edition of illustrated JanSport backpacks will be available from April 2008. Since I’ve got no info on the prices, we’ll just stick to the design.

What do you think? The new JanSport changes the way you looked at your kid’s backpacks? Or your personal backpack, by all means? Or it’s just marketing?

Keira Knightley as Twiggy for Strut Magazine

Haven’t we had enough of Keira lately? Clearly not. A new face of young Miss Knightley is shown by the Winter 2007/2008 issue of Strut magazine.

This new face is a try to state out the similarities between Twiggy and Keira.

Keira Knightley in Strut Magazine Winter edition 2008

I’ll just say in passing that the interview seems to show the same Keira we’re used to see – spoiled, young, immature, and, of course, completely ok with taking her clothes off and showing everyone what a beautiful skeleton she is!

Let’s here hear you out – does she look any bit like Twiggy? Or it’s just another way for young Miss Keira to draw our attention and still keep her clothes on?

Giorgio Armani Enters the World of Luxury Hotels

Who can say fashion industry has its strictness? Giorgio Armani is now a hotel designer. He has designed 160 guest rooms and 144 luxury residential apartments for the world’s first Armani Hotel.

The Armani Hotel will open this year in the luxe Burj Dubai development and it’s announced to be “ultra-spectacular”, especially designed and thought after his own experiences in various hotels all over the world.

Construction of the first Armani Hotel in Burj Dubai
“I was once in a hotel in Shanghai where there were 1,000 cushions on the bed, but no small stool to sit on in the bathroom to dry one’s feet – which is why I chose to furnish the Dubai Hotel and residences in a style I have always loved for a home.”

I wonder if the also makes an outfit matching every room’s decoration. That would be really awesome! Never seen before – reserve a place in the Armani Hotel where every room comes with its personalized outfit! What do you think? Shall we write to the very distinguish Mr. Armani this proposition?
