Gucci Facelift For 70th Anniversary in Rome
February 7th, 2008 by kpriss
For the 70th anniversary of the Gucci Store in Rome an exclusive Heritage bag collection with Renaissance print was made. Frida Giannini (the Gucci creative director) said
“This classic design perfectly lends itself to the spirit of Rome — traditional with a modern spirit.”
And she also reedited a print called 1950s Postcard (a stylized image of Via Condotti) appearing on rigid frame bags and scarves. For the occasion, a new version of Signoria Gucci watch and some fine jewelry were redesigned.
Seems like every occasion is a good reach for marketing and the ever-shrinking imagination of designers is offered as a gift from heaven to re-edit some smashing past hit. Kinda like the movies (or music for instance).
What happened to good quality design? It disappeared or there’s nothing new left to design? (whoa, that really sounds desperate! If that’s the case, we’re in trouble)

Naomi Campbell Denounces Racism in Fashion
February 6th, 2008 by kpriss
Seems like black models don’t get enough attention. Truth being said, we don’t get to see much of them, these days, on the catwalk.
Naomi Campbell herself is against color discrimination:
“Women of colour are not a trend. That’s the bottom line. It’s a pity that people don’t always appreciate black beauty. In some instances, black models are being sidelined by major modelling agencies.”
Remembering her golden days when the other supermodels (Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington) were conditioning their presence on the catwalk on Naomi’s presence in the same fashion show, she’s speaking out against racism in fashion.
Because she’s an “oldie”, only she can protest. Who of the new faces from the catwalks would risk their career for a fight with the giants against color-less runways?
You think this racism is really happening? Or it’s Naomi’s paranoia at work?
Kylie Minogue Furnishings
February 6th, 2008 by kpriss
From last night on, you can all imagine what’s it like to have “Kylie At Home”! It seems that celebrities want to expand their artistic domain and they all get into design.
If it was that easy, I’d try it too! After designing (sort of speak) a line of swimwear for the giant retailer H&M, Kylie’s getting into interiors. At least she doesn’t pretend all the credentials, having told the press that the home furnishing line was created with the help of her stylist, William Baker.
This exceeded my expectations. It was fantastic. I invited the design team to my home and took them around my house, showing them all the things I love, so many things that could give them an idea of what home meant to me – anything inspirational, from my wallpaper to my boxes of clothes. I don’t have it on my bed yet but I will do!
She declared last night while launching the luxury bed linens (to sell at House of Fraser and Debenhams)
After reading these lines I have to ask – what does it mean having your own collection? “showing around” a bunch of personal items and afterwards signing the sketches? And then preparing for the big launch of your collection (in whatever domain that would be)?
Do you think that big names only serve for marketing purposes? Or do you really value their designer talents? (in which case, I’d really love to see a working sketch designed by … let’s say Kate Moss?)
Linkage! Parties, Magazine Covers, Collections, Nail Polish, Bags
February 6th, 2008 by kpriss
In order to celebrate my 300th posting, I thought I’d relate to the world and thus, I give you some of the links I found rather interesting today:
A short review of the Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Party was, it seems, every bit like Chloë herself – a precious gathering of VIP’s pretending to have a great time and trying their hardest to be fashion-week-cool.
Another top-model turned designer – only this time it’s all about a children’s line and Lyia Kebede.
Rihanna’s all over the place lately! From Macy’s where she’s doing her umbrella-collection launch to the NY Fashion Week, she even had the time to do a Cosmo cover!
Oh, what a busy little bee! (not to mention she cut her hair in the mean time!)
Today, one of the fashion’s beloved is having a birthday bash. Happy Birtday, Agyness!
In the mean time:
Everyone at makeupbag is going straight for Nars Orgasm! Not to worry, though, it’s just nail polish ;)
Over at the new pink everyone ignores the death of the it bag and proudly sustains this season’s bag – the new tan bag.
If you’ve got something interesting on your mind, something you came across and like to share with everyone else, please let me know. I’ll see that it gets the proper credits.

Another Fashion Disaster – Jennifer Love-Hewitt at LAX
February 6th, 2008 by kpriss
There’s gotta be something in the air… Jennifer Love-Hewitt is trying to tell us something with that green outfit? Something like.. maybe… she really loved her grandma’ and she’s honoring her with this “ensemble”?
Pardon my sarcasm, but I sometimes wonder why we make all those efforts to promote style, fashion, beauty and all the principles surrounding those concepts! When coming across something like this green outfit it all seems so vane!
Not even that huge Louis Vuitton tote helps the situation! (sixties inspired outfit, her high school days –inspired shoes, short black nails, high pony tail, large tote branded all over – in one word – disastrous!)
Do you find her style put together?

Fashion Disaster – Brittany Murphy at New York Fashion Week
February 6th, 2008 by kpriss
Fashion has its dirty ways. But nobody’s showing that better than Brittany Murphy! When I came across this picture I felt my eyes were in pain.
It seems that the participation to a Fashion Week suddenly makes you a style icon. And when I think of my Paris Fashion Week and that all I could find absolutely ravishing during that time was a tree, I’m really puzzled! Just look at this picture and you’ll see what I mean!
Anyway, let’s get back to Brittany and her outfit looking more like she devastated mummy’s closet than properly mature-outfitted.
Not even that Chanel bag rescues her!
The dress is more of a robe than anything, the scarf looks like dipped in the last ice cream she had on the way back from mummy’s wardrobe review and the shoes… oh, my! The shoes! Oh, I just won’t take it no more!
Enough is enough!
What about you? Do you think her outfit is a “coup de” hammer? or a “coup de” perfect?

Louboutin Autographs Shoes at Saks
February 6th, 2008 by kpriss
Christian Louboutin ads a personal crayon touch to the world of shoes. Thursday, February, 7, 2008 he’s signing shoes from 4 to 7 at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Is it just me, or the world’s going upside down? I remember a time when books were autographed by their authors. I even remember times when books were more popular than shoes! Now are we looking at the saddest perspective ever of replacing books with shoes? Libraries with shoe stores?
What do you think? Is Louboutin going too far? Or it’s incredible that he’ll do such an amazing gesture and sign his creations and you’ve already canceled all your plans for tomorrow for a line-in at Saks?
Home Style – Handmade Home
February 5th, 2008 by kpriss
This is truly amazing! No designer involved but it’s all about design, nevertheless!
Eliphante was created near Sedona, inover 28 years by Michael Kahn and his wife, Leda Livant. The Residence that drew my attention through its originality was built until a progressive brain disease killed Mr. Kahn this December (71years old).
Eliphante, The Handmade Home has a 25-foot ceilings and incorporates rocks and scraps from construction sites, stained glass, pottery and wood and it was turned into a nonprofit arts organization in the late 1980s.
