Louis Vuitton Sells Murakami Handbags Fabric As Art
April 27th, 2009 by kpriss
Normally, it’s LVMH the one who’s suing around, but something has changed. Louis Vuitton was sued by Clint Arthur, an art collector who bought limited-edition prints for $12,000 (in 2007) but later found out that the print fabric was also used for the Louis Vuitton Murakami bags (selling around $1,000).
While Louis Vuitton’s defense is entirely based on claims for publicity and profit for Clint Arthur, the issue raised by the art-collector is rather alarming. Using art to sell luxury is not uncommon on the luxury goods market, but rare are those who really make the difference between commercial art and real art. Clint Arthur’s LV Murakami case hearing is scheduled for today (Monday, April 27th). Would it be all about the ca$h? (LATimes via Luxist)

Alexander McQueen Makes HOME Skull Scarf
April 26th, 2009 by kpriss
The Home project engaged more artists for its noble cause. One by one, they reveal themselves and their amazing creations. Alexander McQueen enrolled for HOME with a special skull scarf.
The skull scarf is actually a skull-Earth scarf. Showing the skull morphed into the Earth image is something quite edgy and should be given serious consideration, beyond the fashion filter. After judging the artistic and fashionable value of both Pilati’s t-shirt design and McQueen’s HOME Earth vision, McQueen’s Earth-skull scarf is by far the most interesting HOME-designer project! Wouldn’t you say? (via)

Natasha Poly Covers Vogue Nippon June 2009
April 25th, 2009 by kpriss
Natasha Poly is one of the moments du moment, the new wave of almost-supermodels (as stated and covered by Vogue US with their Faces of the Moment issue).
But that’s not the reason I chose to bring you Vogue Nippon’s June cover with Natasha all Burberry-ed up! It’s because it’s a June cover! How irresistible is that? Talking fashion avant-time, avant June-time!
Calendar-talk aside, looking back at Natasha Poly’s Vogue Nippon cover makes me wonder if she had cramps when she posed like that for Inez and Vinoodh. It just seems unnatural. Either that, or she absolutely wanted to avoid having a big, black G on her face, Vogue Nippon’s traditional cover look! How do you like your first June 2009 cover? (photos via)
Juicy Couture’s Bird Collection
April 25th, 2009 by kpriss
Feeling there’s room for more than just Juicy Couture’s sporty-ways, the co-founders and co-designers of the brad Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor uncaged their Bird collection (set for Fall 2009).
Bird is the high-end Juicy Couture, a natural evolution for every Juicy girl out there who wishes to show the world she’s all grown up now and she can move up from track suits to an exclusive wardrobe. The 30 pieces from the Juicy Bird collection are priced from $150 to $300 and will be retailed through exclusive stores (and online only at JuicyCouture.com).
The not-so-casual Bird Couture is based on timeless, vintage designs keeping up with the Juicy colors (black, gray, pink) with accents on details (exposed zippers and subtle patterns). I wonder why Paris didn’t offer to be a guest Bird-designer? She’s so Juicy Couture! (via 1, 2)
Paul McCartney We All Stand Together (Rupert And The Frog Song)
April 25th, 2009 by kpriss
I couldn’t overlook a very special moment I shared with you a year ago: my baby girl was born on April 24th 2008! Hence, this week’s Friday Break comes today because I wanted to celebrate this special day with you, just like I did when I brought her home last year!
Paul McCartney’s We All Stand Together (also known as Rupert and The Frog Song) is a wonderful song written and performed by Sir Paul McCartney and the Frog Chorus in 1984. Enjoy! (more about the song and the movie right after the jump!)
