J. Crew And The Boys Pedicure Issue
April 14th, 2011 by kpriss
We’re no strangers to lil’ boys pedicure, are we? In fact, we’ve discussed it before and we pretty much agreed that it was slightly over the limit we’re wiling to cross when it comes to our youngsters.
The latest in the boys toenails painting line comes, surprisingly, from J. Crew. It’s a brand I admire and love to wear. However, with their latest catalog, one of the pages raised my eyebrows high, questioning the reasoning behind it. It’s about designer Jenna Lyons and her picks. Amongst which, a fuchsia nail lacquer she demonstrates on her son pedicure. Little boy. Wearing nail polish. Bright pink. umm… I’m puzzled! (others were bitter and menacing; see the image for yourself here; via)

Is Gwyneth Paltrow Better Than You?
April 14th, 2011 by kpriss
I was thinking what should I call this piece. And haven’t come with the right answer just yet. So instead of focusing on the title, I will develop the story and see what it evolves in. And then, I’ll name it.
So what’s it about? Gwyneth Paltrow. What’s she done this time? Umm… nothing out of the ordinary. For a star. I mean she was out looking like a model and saying that it’s not the genes and not sheer luck but hard work and intensive exercise. At the same time she would most definitely want you to buy her new cooking book (My Father’s Daughter) as well as subscribe to her Goop newsletter and buy her (future) new music album in-between.
Because Gwyneth has it all – she has a handsome looking (famous) husband (cum musician), two lovely kids (a girl and a boy), impeccably good looks, success and the list could go on. Up until it hits the “people’s love and appreciation”. There it’s a flop. Why, oh why doesn’t Gwyneth charm the world? there it goes – I found my title! New Gardening Tips: The Family Tree
April 14th, 2011 by kpriss
You may remember a clever ad we talked about not long ago. The wisdom proffered within guided you to a more serene, hopefully happier life. And the first rule said something about plating a garden. Or a flower in a pot (or several) if you’re in an apartment.
Well, the moment has come to deal with that very piece of advice and to personalize it to the max! Just look below to see what I got for you! A family tree. More like a family garden. It’s a priceless way to transform and adapt any plant you may have in your house! And there’s no stopping you at family members! You can pick, say… a cactus and put Anna Wintour‘s picture! How funny would that be, ha? (made by Good; Designboom via)
Alessandra Ambrosio With And Without Makeup
April 14th, 2011 by kpriss
I was wondering what would take for the world to actually embrace less glamour and photoshop skin smoothing? More celebrity without makeup? More pictures of celebrity without makeup and stylist advice?
Alessandra Ambrosio was recently photographed without makeup and some were inspired enough to blame it all on her recent 30th birthday celebrations (Happy Birthday, Alessandra!). And to be honest, while I don’t place myself higher on the style scale and admit I may look worse than that even on my best days (as I don’t wear makeup or only mascara and concealer) I admit I also feel sheer fascination towards makeupless celebrity. Because I’m amazed by what a little makeup can do and a touch of Photoshop can undo to a person. Aren’t you? (photos via)

April 14th, 2011 by kpriss
I’d like you to take a few moments off of your time and press play on the below embedded video. It’s incredible what the three minutes will bring you!
Peace? Serenity? Amazing inspiration and gratitude for people like that truly exist and sometimes we’re touched by their hard work and creative genius and the world stands still in a magic gap. Join me for a fantastic video ! (this is actually an ad for a phone made of solid wood and the music they reproduced using that long xylophone trail of wood is Johann Sebastian Bach‘s Cantata 147, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Invisible Designs Lab via)

Heidi Klum’s Good Housekeeping May 2011
April 14th, 2011 by kpriss
Is there something Heidi Klum can’t do? She’s your (a)typicall supermom who just balances everything without even blinking. She has a full house (literally) as she and her also famous husband, Seal, have four kids and two dogs. She’s a working mom (she has two TV shows) and numerous fashion deals. Next she wants to add blogger to her curriculum by launching a website called Planet Heidi.
Yes, we’re all on Planet Heidi in May’s 2011 issue of Good Housekeeping as Heidi is speaking loud and clear about her family and her day and night duties. She looks happy, she is happy and she’ll make you happy just reading her talk about her happiness. She’s good housekeeping, that’s for sure! Also – I don’t mind at all seeing her on the cover of GH and not on the cover of Vogue! Do you? (more images from the issue as photographed by Robert Erdmann after the jump! and you can read her interview here)

To Wear Or Not To Wear Flip Flops?
April 13th, 2011 by kpriss
That is the question! While many of us (ladies) and our beloved men can speak up pro flip flops, some heavy authorities in the fashworld have raised their voice against the oh-so-comfy summer footwear (Tom Ford, anyone?).
Why would they do such a thing and how is it politically and fashionably correct to stand when it comes to the flip flops issue is merely an issue of aesthetics and.. well hygiene. Women and men alike need to take care of their feet if they want to expose them in a flip flop (or a mere sandal, by all means).
That doesn’t necessarily mean a pedicure, however, it does mean you have to clean and cut them nails to look decent. Take for instance menswear designer Michael Bastian’s words on his collaboration with Havaianas and his opinion on the flip flop front: (What’s your personal take on the flip flop matter? if you want to read more about Michael Bastian and his Havaianas, you can do so here and here)
[…]sometimes when we’re doing our show looks we’ll say “what’s the right shoe for that look?” and the answer sometimes is no shoe. Havaianas are the closest thing you can get to being barefoot, and it’s just perfect in its minimalism.
It’s a tricky shoe and it’s a bit of a lightning rod. People have very strong opinions about it. I feel like it’s less to do with the flip-flop and more to do with people’s emotional feelings about men showing their feet, but the main rule is if you’re gonna wear a flip-flop, you’ve gotta keep your feet in good shape. Even if that means a full-on pedicure, you gotta do it. Wearing flip-flops is a privilege, not a right.[…]

Bosch IXO Bling Screwdriver With Swarovski Crystals
April 13th, 2011 by kpriss
The weekend will be soon upon us (again) so you’ll have time to get creative. In order to do that, you may need one or two handy tools. Are you familiar with the Bosch IXO Cordless Screwdriver? it was especially designed for the crafty fashionistas out there! Why, you ask? well take a look and judge for yourself!
The tiny Bosch IXO has been equipped, among others, with a handful of Swarovski Crystals. It’s a very limited edition item (only 2,000 were created worldwide) and it was launched to celebrate the IXO from Bosch, world’s best selling power tool. The 470 Swarovski crystals won’t help in any other way but to increase the aesthetic value. Outside of that, the IXO comes with lithium – ion cordless power technology, forward / reverse operation with LED light for dark areas as well as a special shape for tight corners. Wouldn’t you want an IXO just for you? (Bosch via)
