Anna Wintour’s Sequined Chanel Dress For Met Gala 2011
May 4th, 2011 by kpriss
The day has passed and I forgot one of the most important guests at the Met Gala 2011 (or any other Met Gala): Anna Wintour. The legendary Vogue editor in chief was wearing a Chanel Haute Couture creation from the Spring 2011 collection.
At first I was a bit distracted by the unusual (almost slouchy) fit of the sequined dress, but then again, it’s Anna Wintour and she was supposed to wear Chanel! so what if it’s a Ball to honor the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Alexander McQueen Savage beauty exhibition? Anna can wear whatever she wants!
(pictured right after the jump there’s her daughter, Bee Shaffer, who’s looking gorgeous in a burgundy Balenciaga dress – and just below, in the background, you can catch a glimpse of Andre Leon Talley’s cobalt blue attire. Probably chosen in accord with Anna’s dress?) (photos via 1, 2)
Beyonce’s Black Sequined Pucci Dress For Met Gala 2011
May 3rd, 2011 by kpriss
When I first heard Beyonce was going to the Met Ball, I said wow! There it goes, the House of Dereon joins the festivities to honor McQueen and for a little bit of harmless self promotion! Then I heard rumors that she will be wearing Tom Ford (given she walked for his women’s collection). Then that she’ll be honoring McQueen herself, by wearing a dress from the label.
All that flew right out the window when the real reports were submitted revealing that Beyonce’s dress was by Pucci’s Peter Dundas. Altered beyond recognition and season placement, Beyonce’s black sequined dress was in the all too familiar mermaid shape she loves so much. But wait, what’s wrong with it? She can’t walk the stairs? She needs assistance? Bee, you’re just too much! (photos via 1, 2)
Blake Lively’s Gray Chanel Couture Dress For Met Gala 2011
May 3rd, 2011 by kpriss
Since the first second I laid my eyes on Blake Lively and her gown for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute 2011 Gala I felt the itchy need to talk about it. I refused to put it first, though, because it’s not really my kind of gown, but now I just can’t hold it any longer:
Blake Lively in gray sparkling Chanel Couture Fall 2009. With Karl Lagerfeld at her side, Blake was radiant and redheaded. The hair color is for a movie role and the dress is for McQueen. Or so they say. Although, from the two, I’m guessing that Karl alone answered to the Savage Beauty call to honor Alexander McQueen. What say you? (photos via 1, 2)

Penelope Cruz Black Oscar de la Renta Dress Met Gala 2011
May 3rd, 2011 by kpriss
From (nearly) disastrous white to classic black, that’s how we swing today. From the good to the bad, we’re seeing all kinds and colors for they were all meant to honor Alexander McQueen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2011 Costume Institute Gala.
And even if I come too late with my views, it’s a sentimental need to add my perspective on an event honoring a designer I loved so much. So there goes Penelope Cruz wearing a long black dress from Oscar de la Renta Fall Winter 2011 Collection. She was arm in arm with the very designer and she looked radiant and gorgeous. Motherhood is suiting her like a glowing glove! (is it me, the photographic perspective or she lost a lot of weight?) (photos via 1, 2)

Naomi Campbell’s White Alexander McQueen Dress For Met Gala 2011
May 3rd, 2011 by kpriss
Talking about Miranda Kerr and how she attracted all the fashion stones casted by fashpurists who took her look as too ballerina-esque, here’s what I have to say: a single look at Naomi Campbell’s dress suffice to understand that Miranda was really a doll!
It’s a typical case of white gone wrong, not even bridal! Bridal would have saved this. But no. Naomi was wearing (to my sadness) a white Alexander McQueen dress. Which I can only describe as lovely. If it wasn’t for the fringed details hanging down from the bodice. That really ruins the dress and the entire delicacy of the otherwise exquisite dress. And that’s not the worse! Naomi’s hairdo and brooch, that’s the cherry on top! Would you defend Naomi? Why? (photos via)
Miranda Kerr White Marchesa Dress For Met Gala 2011
May 3rd, 2011 by kpriss
I’m sure many of you have noticed Miranda Kerr and her rather unusual dress from the Met Gala 2011. She was, biensur, accompanied by her husband, Orlando Bloom, and she was looking adorable. They were both looking adorable, actually.
Which could be one of the reasons I liked her dress. Miranda was wearing a white ballerina-esque dress from Marchesa Fall Winter 2011 which brought countless critiques upon lovely Miranda. Who happened to look like a doll! Ballerina doll! Did you like her? (no, I don’t think it fitted the Alexander McQueen theme, but then again, so few did, I stopped counting those who chose to somehow ignore the Savage Beauty idea) (photos via 1, 2)
Maggie Q’s Soft Beige Floral Tadashi Shoji Dress For Met Gala 2011
May 3rd, 2011 by kpriss
Since I started talking about soft beiges, it’s time I brought in Maggie Q. For she was a stunning appearance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute 2011 Gala! Her strapless soft beige floral dress from Tadashi Shoji is purely charming (that counts as reason no. one and the second is Maggie being Nikita from the now very en vogue TV Series, which, coincidentally, is one of my Adored Husband’s favorites. wink).
Soft, sweet and lovely, Maggie was one of those tone down beauties, a far cry from the inviting Savage theme, but we have to take what’s offered to us, instead of dreaming that everyone wore McQueen in an obvious homage to Lee’s sartorial genius. Wasn’t she beautiful? (photos via 1, 2)
Salma Hayek’s Soft Beige Alexander McQueen Dress For Met Gala 2011
May 3rd, 2011 by kpriss
As one of the hosts of the night, Salma Hayek (through the billionaire graces of her husband, Francois Henry Pinault), was wearing a beige nude dress from Alexander McQueen. She’s no particular savage beauty, (the style being more in the fashion of those worn before for various Red Carpet events or magazine covers), but at least it’s McQueen, and the night is dedicated to the Met’s Alexander McQueen Exhibition.
She’s lovely, a spot on Classic beauty from McQueen. The waist rose made from wrapped fabric is dreamy! I love the idea and I’d love to reproduce it, in a DIY manner. (photos via)
