Repetto Shoes For Karl Lagerfeld (Repetto Short History)

Since we’re talking about highly praised shoes today, let me introduce the new Repetto for Karl Lagerfeld.

It’s not the first time I heard the name Repetto and so I decided to look more for information. The result wasn’t really what I expected, so it’s double the pleasure of finding out that Repetto comes from Madame Rose Repetto. (don’t miss the rest of the story and more images after the jump)

Madame Rose Repetto made her first pair of ballet shoes for her son (at his demand), Roland Petit, in 1947. Her atelier from Rue de la Paix has since evolved into the first Repetto store and now mythical place for every Ballet and Repetto lovers around the world (where dance shoes and apparel can be found).

Some of the ballet’s greatest names graced the world with their Repetto steps (Rudolf Noureev, Eric Vuan, Kirov, even les Folies Bergères). Let us not forget the famous ballerine Cendrillon, especially created (sur demande) by Mme Rose Repetto for Brigitte Bardot (for the movie “Et Dieu créa la femme”) and Serge Gainsbourg’s true addiction for Repetto shoes (he used 30 pairs/year!)

Now it’s Karl Lagerfeld who takes on a collaboration with the famous shoes house. The ballet-inspired creations were first presented in his Spring-Summer 2009 collection. (you can see the entire collection here) But at the time there was no word about Repetto. Now the word is out and quickly spreading that the new Repetto will debut in stores in April.
