Planning a summer holiday in Greece next year? Or simply drowning in nostalgia about all things Greece? Because Dolce & Gabbana seem to, in their Spring Summer 2014 collection!
I wanted to wrap up my Milan Fashion Week talk this season with this particular Dolce & Gabbana Spring Summer 2014 presentation as it is as contrasting as it is playful and seducing. A golden game of romanticism and material culture braided into an eminently spring worthy palette. The shoes illustrate that spirit perfectly, so let’s take a closer look after the jump!
It’s hard to ignore the financial troubles of the Italian Designer duo (they have been investigated and convicted for tax evasion) when you’re faced with a collection heavily accessorized with golden coins. But regardless of that, I’ll concentrate on classic fashion details elevating this collection’s appeal beyond any doubt.
Wedge platforms have always been in the cards for Dolce & Gabbana and this catwalk makes no exception to the wedges rule. Or the polka dots rule!
Add the coins – this current collection’s gravitating point – and a handful of flowers or Greek motifs references and you’ll have an extravagant palette of wedges to inspire your spring-summer wardrobe!
Contrasting with the chunkiness of the wedges, there were plenty of kitten heels and pointed slingback flats to hint at timeless elegant silhouettes. Something Domenico Dolce and Stephano Gabbana have us accustomed throughout the years. Fashion icons like Sophia Loren or Monica Bellucci have always inspired them to create very feminine, sensual and above the trends pieces that run in the Italian fashion spirit.
But what’s with the column heels? Yes, Greece – inspired, as all the collection, but really? Greek Column heels? I’d rather take their interpretation of the utilitarian sandal. Others may have gone with the Birkenstock feel, but not Dolce & Gabbana! Oh, no! Their gladiator golden sandal is worthy of a Troy movie remake!
Overall, Dolce and Gabbana’s Spring Summer 2014 collection is proposing a narrow palette of gold, black and red for the next season. Every material girl should camouflage herself in a Greek goddess starring in a Fellini piece. More you state your cultural references higher, more the audience will fall at your coin-embellished feet and bow to your clever Sicilian disguise! (images courtesy styledotcom)

Hahahah, that’s way funny. These Italian mega tax frauds are inpsired by Greece? Yes, sorry it is hard to ignore… I see…..(sorry I am a ‘European’. But not by choice! And I don’t blame Greece for.)
Anyway, I love the ‘kweenies’ though. My mother called these cute kitten heels ‘kweenies’. So that’s the name to me. These red and gold-ish 50s sandals are so very lovely as are the other two pairs. Still owns a pair I bought on a flea market for only fl.5,-…..imagine, that’s great quality shoes for only €1,–? Awww…..
I’m a bit over wedges. But to each their own. :)
