I don’t know about you, but I know that whenever I say Vera Wang wedding dress, I think about perfect, immaculate white wedding dresses with intricate designs and fairy princess cuts. Every time. And the recent celebrity weddings helped me shaped that image with even more accuracy. How lovely was Hilary Duff in her Vera Wang wedding gown?
However, the last celebrity wedding I remember being Vera Wang overloaded was Kim Kardashian’s. The most famous Kardashian was finally going to settle down with basketball player Kris Humphries. The wedding reception in itself, although completely lacked of imagination and finesse, based on a black and white theme, revolved around the bride: Kim Kardashian wore no less than three wedding dresses, all designed by Vera Wang! How exquisite is that?
Just the other day, after weeks and weeks of speculations, of paparazzi chasing the newlyweds around town/s, hunting their ring finger for any palpable proof of real marriage, the bomb went twitborne! Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her husband of 72 days, Kris Humphries! Bam! The media went crazy, if Twitter was based on wires, they would’ve surely been on fire! The world is in shock (of course it is!), not really knowing which side to take. I’m not here to discuss that and nor to I care for fame – fabricated moments. I’m here to ask you about Vera Wang’s latest bridal collection: black wedding dresses? I mean… come on? Black bridal gowns? What the…? I know it’s maybe just a cliché, much like Santa all red and Coke – ish… But? Vera Wang’s wedding dresses just got black, man! It’s serious!
Look at them! No, just look at them! Seriously! Black wedding dresses? I know Vera is a designer and we all love her blessed talented soul! But we don’t really have to embrace anything and everything she’s force feeding us! Girls? It’s alright, it’s perfectly normal to want white wedding dresses! It’s just a fashion season! Believe me, it’ll all be over before you know it! Blink and you’ll miss it! (I cross my fingers for it to be just a flavor of a season, maybe heavily influenced by, who knows, Kim Kardashian having gone over the highest mountain top and back to have a Vera Wang bridal gown extravaganza? Just asking, innocently asking, don’t go casting the stone now!)

I agree its just a fad & provocative PR from Wang. We know virgin brides at the altar these days are an endangered species but unless the bride’s a Goth I fail to see the attraction. Now that’s just me of course. A bride should feel free to choose what she wants.
I’ve seen red, butter yellow & lavender wedding gowns though but at second time marriages.
The only good thing I see about these black wedding dresses is that they can be worn again afterwards especialy to formal affairs and Halloween Balls *rolls eyes in air*
I think that the dresses are lovely but I do agree that it is a trend, and there will be hoppers on this trend skateboard.
I myself have always dreamed of wearing an Audrey Hepburn type dress to my dream wedding, like the one she wore in Sabrina. : )
A Black wedding reminds me of the Addams family. Positively ghoulish.

Colorful wedding dresses are really taking off in Europe–only a matter of time before the “trend” gains more steam over here. I don’t think black is for everyone (I have always wanted a black wedding dress because why on earth wear something every other bride has worn?), but I’ve seen lovely colorful dresses from several designers this year. Wang’s black dresses were certainly dramatic, but she also ran several in a lovely nude/ivory tone in the same show, and Carolina Herrera had a beautiful tulle ball gown reminiscent of Grace Kelly in shades of gray, purple and pink. It was very delicate and feminine, and not nearly as harsh as the black. Herrera also had a gown that very very pale blue with a striped bustle–dramatic and unusual. Reem Acra featured an embroirdered green dress, and Monique Lhuillier has been featuring blush pink gowns for a couple seasons now. You can see where I’m going with this. I think the colorful trend is lovely and unusual, and while not for everyone, it will appeal to those brides who don’t care about fitting into a proscribed ideal of what a bride should look like. The white gown has only been the predominant fashion for about 150 years. Before that, women married in whatever color they wanted. I personally want a black dress because my favorite color is robin’s egg blue, and I think it would make an unforgettable, dramatic statement on my wedding day, to have a black gown standing out amid the blue. Also, I look terrible in white. It makes me look like I’m dying. So I wouldn’t want to wear it anyway, because I look bad in it. Why look sickly and awful on my wedding day? Bring on the colors!
