Today I have the chance to share one of my favorite brands with you: Marithé François Girbaud. I fell in love with their brand long time ago and not only because of their jeans (which used to be highly popular in the 90s) but mainly because of their ad campaigns.
Marithé François Girbaud was founded in 1964 by the husband and wife team who gave their very names to the newborn fashlabel. Though they were largely known all over the globe, their particular advertisement view which brought them fame was what cut them short too! (the story continues right after the jump with more images! Click here for the gallery!)
Marithé and François Girbaud issued their Last Supper ad in 2005. The world did not appreciate turning Jesus into a female character so they banned the ad in France (the native country of the fashcouple) and Italy casting serious stones at the label for being so outrageously daring (I’ll keep out of the ideological controversy, we’re on fashion and style here). The label now mainly concentrates on the Japan market but their ads remain as creative as ever, as visually surprising as always. Take a look and tell me what you think (besides the Spring Summer 2010 ad campaign, which was actually a pretext for bringing this label to your attention, I also gathered few images from few past campaigns – 2009, 2008, 2007) (photos via 1, 2, 3)
