Body Talk doesn’t necessarily require a body, but specifically demands people willing to talk about (their) body. Vogue UK, however, decided it should help everyone (men or women) talk about their bodies. By using Natalia Vodianova’s clothes-less body for their June 2009 cover.
A typical Mario Testino, Natalia’s picture is hardly unnatural and despite my case of Vodianova-allergy (due to her overexposure in magazines and social events), I have a positive feeling about this cover. However, I should also express my concern about the way fashion magazines evolve. (the story continues right after the jump)
We all know about the fragile state of the world’s finances, but in challenging times like these, people used to turn to art to balm their mind and spirit.
I don’t recollect any memory of them turning to Playboy&co to ease their life worries. I always respected fashion as an art form. It’s mainly the reason why I fall for Haute Couture and not Ready-to-wear fashion shows. Because that’s where I see art in fashion. Now I look at the cover of a fashion magazine and I say to myself there’s no art in alluring buyers with nudity. It’s no fashion. Unless we’re taking marketing strategies for fashion. Of course, there’s always the pretext of baring it all in the name of fashion and body truth. But do we really need an explicit magazine photo in a fashion magazine to be straight to ourselves? Vogue’s clothes-less Natalia is too much for a fashion magazine? (photo via)

I agree. Though I think Natalia looks beautiful (as always) this is not about fashion at all.
Interesting line: “What our bodies reveal”. Well this body reveals nothing. I believe Natalia looks still good after giving birth to three children but this is photoshopped too.
It was kinda refreshing to see a photos of Julia Roberts au naturel in a bikini, that is if the Daily Mail has not photoshopped her the other way around…..Anyway she looked radiant but it was obvious she has given birth.
I agree with, I dont think the nudity was necessary . Bizarrely enough the cover really does remind me of Beth Ditto’ LOVE magazine cover
I am not a fan of nudity just for the sake of attention grabbing and I think that this cover falls into that category. It looks like a “Maxim” cover actually rather than a fashion magazine cover.
