How To Wear Summer Outfit Essentials: Linen

Linen is my fabric of choice for Spring and Summer. Hopefully it will become yours too, after reading this story! While writing about my favorite pieces from Kate Moss & Topshop new collection, it occurred to me I never talked about something that’s of capital importance to me: linen.

For Spring and Summer, I could wear linen (and actually do wear it) 24/7. Because it’s natural, because it looks amazing and because it’s so versatile! How many fabrics have you seen worn in and out of office, on the bed or hanging at the windows with the same perfect elegance and easiness?

Linen pants

My favorite pants from Spring till Fall: I wear them with high heels, with flat sandals, with sneakers or clogs. I wear them in any combination and they go fabulously each and every time. I personally own a wide leg pleated pair in a very dark grey, looking like a worn-out black.

Linen skirts

Linen skirts are just as versatile as the above-mentioned linen pants, only they’re skirts – got it? Seriously. Ruffled or with added lace, the linen skirts are just as feminine, timeless and easy to wear as they are a wonderfully natural fabric for summer clothes!

Linen shirts

For men and women alike, linen shirts are my favorite shirts. The way the sleeves roll up is perfect and the way it looks casual but unbelievably sophisticated makes me want to wear linen shirts for ever. And I love that they’re loose and flowy, every breathe of air makes them look alive.

Linen dresses

Take all the above and roll them into one, single layer of perfection: the linen dress loose or not, is a must have in any wardrobe. Choose it in the color which you feel most comfortable in, layer it for a more fashionable look (be careful about the colors you use and make it as loose as possible. You won’t like to stain it once heat makes you sweat like out of the shower!).

Linen scarves

Do we have to talk about scarves again? Give me a single reason why linen scarves would be anything less than perfect! They can take the sweat away should you carry one in your purse, they keep you protected from the merciless sun rays should you keep it on your shoulders, they can turn into that handy extra layer for chilly evenings.

I also love linen. It feels so good against your skin in the hot temps. Some people are put off because it creases easily but it doesn’t have to be crease free to look and feel good.

That’s actually what I love most about linen: that it creases so ‘artistically’ up to the point of making the crease look good. I find ‘stiff’ fabric too unrealistic and I treasure more the breaking-into clothes, the wearing off factor more than the crisp and straight lines. (something I usually appreciate only in the case of suit tailored pants)

Linen is just awesome! For me it depends on the garment. I wouldn’t choose long linen for skirts but I like it for flared pants and comfy blouse wide blouses. Or these cropped pants you posted. It’s so sweet to my sensitive skin and wonderful and protective when the weather is hot.

I too prefer prints on my long skirts, but I think that a layered linen skirt, with pockets and unfinished hem would be rather interesting… Especially in dark grey or black – what do you think, Adriana?

Also – I seem to have developed an obsession for cropped pants! Somehow everything looks so much better rolled up! Is it just in my head?

I have worn all season linen EVERY DAY for all most 10 years! I love it, wrinkles and all. I do iron and starch every day for work wear. I pair my dresses and tunics with jeans, slacks and skirts. I also wear Spanx in winter for added comfort.

Can’t you please tell me where the second blouse and fourth dress are from?! Must have both!
