I think I could stare at Couture all day long! There’s just so much going on with haute couture, so many details to check out, so many interesting perspectives to discover! So much work and imagination poured into clothing! Clothing that, for the most part, goes unnoticed and, worse, unworn! It’s mind blowing – the couture shows are the very essence of a fashion show. All that makes fashion spectacular and outstanding goes out on the Couture Catwalk. And it should get so much more attention than it does!
The craftsmanship, the ideas, the excellence! My ideal couture presentation is (was) Givenchy’s. A handful of models posing nicely for the press, all dolled up in their high fashion garments, too precious to walk around in a regular runway presentation.
But getting back to why I started this: Valentino Spring 2013 Couture! They’re usually so romantic and delicate about fashion, I really thought working out the stylists’ flowers message would’ve been a piece of cake. But as it turns out, it’s hard to get flowery fabric without getting a tapestry vibe from the final creation. I worked around those tapestry angles and focused on:
{1} the delicate contrasting cape: because it makes the dress more than the actual dress makes itself! (am I making any sense?)
{2} the black lace dress & cape: because we all need our wardrobe drama moment!
{3} the red dress: because it’s Valentino we’re talking about…
{4} the red cape dress: because the Little Red Riding Hood was also wearing Valentino
{5} the embroidered petals dress: because everybody knows you have to launch in 3D to make a visual statement nowadays.
{6} the delicate structured white dress: because printed fabric is so yesterday!
Oh, and food for fashion thought: the shoes were all mid to kitten heels, so do take note and act accordingly! (images Marcus Tondo / InDigital / GoRunway; styledotcom)
