Michelle Williams As Marilyn Monroe For Vogue October 2011

At first I thought it was a joke. But then I saw it everywhere. I waited for several hours, a reasonable time to see if this is the actual cover. So here it is. Officially: Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe for Vogue October 2011!

Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the inside pictorial (click here for the gallery) is way more impressive than the actual cover. Which comes across as weird. Unnatural, very un-Marilyn. Why is this happening? Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you already know that Michelle Williams is playing Marilyn in an upcoming movie. While I’m certain that the end result is going to be breathless, I have to ask if Michelle was really the best choice to play Marilyn Monroe. Was she? (there’s also an interview, if you’re curious)

It looks like the work of an intern learning photoshop.
and yeah, because Marilyn is an almost unexplored topic…

mdinah is right although I like Michelle as an actress. And this; when do they let Marilyn rest at last?

Michelle is a very gifted actor.
She will be able to pull off an apt Marilyn Monroe I think. : )
But who would you have suggested for this part? Lindsay Lohan?!!!
Yea Gads NO! :P ; )

ummm. I haven’t really considered anyone for the role (except Marilyn herself). I think Michelle has a different physical configuration (her face looks different) from Marilyn’s. However, I hear that she’s doing a great job in portraying MM’s sensibility and fragility. (Lindsay? no – no – no! She’s too taken with her own persona to get under the character’s skin. I think.)

This cover is so bad on so many levels it is hard to know where to start. From the creativity to the actress of choice to the styling – yikes! I have to ask where is the fashion here? It just suggests to me that Anna had a brain freeze after the fabulousness of last months effort! Even the universally panned OZ Vogue has Arizona Muse on the cover (3 different covers)!
Regarding MM – I just wish they (pop culture / media) would let the 20th century fade from memory. Let MM RIP.
