Marisa Tomei has also opted for a dark deep blue dress for the 2011 Oscars Red Carpet. Only instead of falling for the latest designers collection, she chose a vintage 1950 couture dress from Charles James (from Lily et Cie). A while back, Penelope Cruz opted for a white vintage Pierre Balmain dress for the Oscars Red Carpet, so you might as well go on and say that vintage is de rigueur for the Oscar wardrobe.
Accessorizing her dress, Marisa was wearing Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes. Though I admit it’s a dress I saw more fit for the Met’s American Costume Institute gala, I admire Marisa’s choice and her originality. I’m sure there wasn’t anyone dressed like her tonight! And she chose the dress herself since she owns it since some years and thought this was the right moment to wear it. That’s what she told on the red carpet. I’ve watched that whole show, I’m still sleepy….but I remember Marisa looked so much better on the screen than on this photos. My friend asked how old she was and I believe she 46. He couldn’t believe it; according to him it could have been in her early 30’s as well. I agree. :)
One of our faves of the night and wee-wee hours….;)
A beautiful dress. I really like Marisa Tomei she is rather nifty!
I do not watch the Oscars as I find them rather longwinded and boring but I do love the following day when you post the dress photos Kpriss! So thanks ever so for that!
: )
Why would Marisa pick a drab dress like this one & then wear a fab bright pink dress to the after parties? Sorry this dress misses the mark for me.
Ellington :* and that, my daaahlings, is why I love Stylefrizz-ing so much! :*
So I wasn’t the only one who thought Marisa’s dress looked waaaaay better on screen than in the photos! phew! It’s a relief, I was beginning to think that maybe she was wearing something else on stage!
(at least this year you were right, Ellington – rather boring edition, sadly, I was hoping for something else, given that Anne Hathaway and James Franco were part of the project and so many wonderful, great filmpersons walked on that stage!)
keiko: since she obviously loves her dress I assume she didn’t want it to be ruined after saving it for a special moment all those years? ;)
