Yesterday I thought there wasn’t anything that could pull the plug on the colorful seventies fiesta that was the New York Fashion Week until now. Today things have changed.
Donna Karan’s Spring Summer 2011 collection was acclaimed and received with warmth and applause. I think they were just being polite since Donna Karan is celebrating 25 years in the business. Diplomacy runs the world. Sincerity, however, flows through my veins. So let’s see what this collection was really made of!
They say it’s a voyage – themed collection. I say it’s pretty lifeless and uninspired. The fabrics don’t flatter a woman’s body, especially with that severely tight cut. The colors could only compliment a darker complexion (which we hadn’t been honored with, at the Donna Karan Spring Summer 2011 fashion show – yeah, why’s that, Donna?) or a tanned skin (which would normally be the case during the summer season). The only hit in all this undead sea of nude and frumpy silk misses were the evening gowns. Those were precious and lovely, thank Heavens, otherwise I would have had only one word about Donna Karan’s 2011 summer: dull. What’s your take on this collection? (you can see photos of the entire collection here)
