Throughout the years I always share with you something really precious for my family: we don’t really own a TV. And we pride ourselves with that, actually! (and yes, we can perfectly live without). (yes, yes, I know, this is about Anna Paquin and her Alexander McQueen black dress for the 2010 edition of the Emmy Awards! stick with me, we’ll get there!)
That doesn’t mean we’re completely off beat and we don’t know what’s happening out there, in the TV world. We thought it was more fitted that way, for us, for the children. They get to watch great animation movies (yes, in case you’re wondering if my lil’ Pixar weakness has something to do with it: they’re almost all Disney/Pixar animation movies) and more and we get to catch up with big screen novelties every now and then. And yes, sometimes there’s this TV series bug itching us and forcing us into seeing a full season (sometimes two or three) of TV Series in a big, happy, one night sitting. It happened with Prison Break, Lost, Dexter and now it’s been going deep with Breaking Bad!
So it happens that this edition of the 2010 Emmy Awards was a very interesting one for us at least: Breaking Bad won on two accounts: first (chronologically speaking) because Aaron Paul won the award for best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for AMC’s Breaking Bad and then for the Best Actor in a Drama Series: Bryan Cranston from AMC’s Breaking Bad. (oh, and also for Kyra Sedgwick having won the Best Actress in a Drama Series for The Closer – one of my Adored Husband’s favorites). Also congratulating everyone else who either was nominated or worked closely in a nominated project, we’re happy Breaking Bad got such amazing recognition and we’re hoping they’ll get back soon filming. (also, since we’re speaking about special TV series – if you haven’t tried it out, please consider watching The Big Bang Theory. Oh, and Lie to Me? I so hope to see them on the Emmy list one fine day!)
Pretty long introduction, eh? Now getting back to our main focus here: the Red Carpet dresses. I’ll have to start with a special mention for Anna Paquin’s Alexander McQueen dress. Accompanied by her husband and True Blood co-star, Stephen Moyer, she was truthful to her McQueen wardrobe habits (on the Red Carpet, at least). I love the dress, I love the fact that McQueen still gets Red Carpets, I didn’t thought it was such a good match on Anna. What say you? (photos via)

it doesnt look that good on her…
Oh no… I love True Blood. No offence against Paquin. But the dress looks awfull on her. She and Heidi could change dresses. I’m sure she would be lovely in the black SHORT Marchesa.
love anna p but girl has no sense of style. All that sexiness going to waste on that ugly dress. Somebody call rupaul for her.
true that. Heidi looks great in the mini but it’s much more age appropriate for Anna to wear.
I have only watched one season of True Blood and have since lost interest as it seems to be just one big blood soaked bonk fest and the antithesis of Twilight which I loath.
(From one lame extreme to another…)
But as for Anna Paquin and this McQueen dress… Firstly I love McQueen’s stuff (not the cloven hoof shoes but his other things of creative beauty,) and I am happy that he is still getting well deserved play, but this dress does not look great on Anna nor does it suit her at all. She is making it look frumpy to me.
Now Tilda Swinton or Cate Blanchet , they could wear this dress wonderfully well! : )
I think it is a really beautiful dress, and she does look good. But there is something not quite right about it. I think she needs to be taller, it just isn’t flattering on her. Maybe if her shoes were less bulky and higher like the ones on the model, it would look better.
I never thought I would write a thing like this: she’s not skinny enough for the dress. Or the dress is not well tailored for her body. Right, the shoes are an awful mix with this dress too.
About the Emmy’s: I should have watched Closer because I love Kyra Sedgwick. She’s underrated as an actress. So I like it a lot she got an Emmy. As I’m pleased for my favorite Archie Panjabi as Best Supporting Actress for her role as Kalinda in The Good Wife. :)
I agree with Adriana: she’s not skinny enough and maybe she should be a little bit taller for that absolutely beautiful dress!
totally agree with adriana.. besides, that cut in the waistline is an inverted V on the model(which elongates her torso) while in Ana is a transversal one(maybe due to movement while walking??) which makes her waist look bigger …
