After Alessandra Facchinetti’s two seasons-tryout chez Valentino, she left the maison. The blurry situation wasn’t even clarified when Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli were appointed as the new creative team chez Valentino.
Yesterday the accessory team, today the designers behind Valentino, Maria Grazia and Pier Paolo made a true show out of this Haute Couture Spring 2009 Collection. (don’t miss the images from Valentino Haute Couture Show right after the jump!)
Valentino is (to me) all about being a woman, wearing your feminine ways to perfection. There’s no fear in overdoing that fragility and delicateness, never too many layers of fabric, never too short on bows and draped chiffon.
The 39 models of this new collection were conservative enough and Valentino-ish enough to make the now-retired Valentino Garavani pretty proud and to reinstate the calm and normality in the Maison. There wasn’t anything complicated or too avant-garde.
The collection played a safe card, in patterns and colors, but what a wonderful and stylish card it was! Even if mostly on the white-beige side of the rainbow, the precious crystal-details and the feathered ends spiced up some of the outfits. There was also a lacey-embroidery on few dresses, a trend that was picked up by other HC designers too.
I only chose the models I liked the most, you can see all the collection here. Do you think Maria Grazia and Pier Paolo make a good Valentino?
