Recession Haute Couture: Evian By Jean Paul Gaultier

There’s always room for fashion in our lives. With our without the recession, Haute Couture and Prêt-à-Porter will always insinuate in every fashionista’s daily routine.

Fashion it up with a Manolo Diet Coke, or simply with a bottle of Evian by Jean Paul Gaultier. This is not the first time Evian plays the fashion trick. They’ve done it before with Christian Lacroix and now they’re at it again with Jean Paul Gaultier. (more information, pictures and video right after the jump!)

Evian JP Gaultier Haute Couture

Like every maison with a serious amount of self respect, Evian is doing two collections: Haute Couture and Prêt-à-Porter. The first collection, Prêt-à-Porter was issued for the 2009 Holidays Season. The bottle, screaming Jean Paul Gaultier, has an aristocratic design: simple, with just one color – vibrant blue, plays it all in the crystals game (the bottle is covered with giant crystals to create a shimmering cooling effect).

The Haute Couture collection has 5 bottles created at the House of Baccarat and will be exhibited in 5 different locations (besides Paris – their home, New York, London, Moscow, Tokyo, Melbourne). Each bottle has its own unique look: New York is a cascade of air bubbles enveloped in crystal, London has a crystal tray with goblets attached to it, like an invite to taste Evian.

Evian JPGaultier NY Tokyo

Moscow has tiny crystal droplets streaming down the bottle into a micro lake. The Tokyo bottle has a crystalline mirror to admire itself in it, just like Narcissus. Melbourne’s bottle has crystal drops of water gathering in a mini pool. My favorites are New York and Tokyo. Which ones do you prefer? (there’s a mini-site attached to this collection and you can view it here) (via 1, 2)

Funny that. In Toronto they want to start to outlaw bottles of water because the landfills and recycling depots are having a time of it dealing with all of the excess. The thing now is to drink tap water again and carry your own refillable bottle, not the disposable ones.
In terms of aesthetics I like the look of the Tokyo bottle.

I like these bottles a lot. Not very original but I also likes the Tokyo bottle the best.

For so long I find bottled water such nonsense. I’ve read so many studies, reports about all these bottled waters and its not necessary in our culture. Tap water is clean here. If not, or when you scared, or don’t trust it, cook it first. Unless if I was in countries where its not recommended to drink the tap water I bought bottled water.
I’ve often wondered when all these bottles would become a problem. And here we are in Toronto they do plan something to do about it because its a problem for the envoriment. Applaud!

LOL! The Evian “We will rock you” animated commercial is so cute!

I hope the day will come when we won’t have to worry about plastic bottles! the day when they’ll be long gone!

Awww, the “rock you” commercial was a blast!
