Christian Lacroix eclecticism is always interesting to watch. I may not agree with his choices, I may as well love them, Christian Lacroix is to me an artisan of fabric, colors and influences.
This new Couture collection is no exception either. I sometimes take every collection (especially the Haute Couture ones) as a movie and the clothes should make the characters, accompanying them in continuous evolution. Christian Lacroix is more like few movies in one since his designer eccentricity allows him to mix and match so many different inspirations (and stylishly get away with it!). It’s a Pirates movie!
The exotic materials, the flower prints (that I remember from old tapisseries) as well as the golden details make me dream about Gypsy caravans and Renaissance luxury. I picked up some of the models, but you can see the entire collection here.
The strict hair updos with colored finish, the huge hoop earrings, the multi layered jewelry, it’s all a game. The Christian Lacroix pirates fashion game. Would you play this Summer 2009 Haute Couture season with Christian Lacroix?

I have to say that I love to look at it, its art to me! So vibrant and festive looking, it does not acknowledge the world’s financial state at the moment, which maybe he is trying to present this collection as a distraction? Also Edina Monsoon would love it! Its Lacroix sweetie darling! ;)
