I’ve got to admit that when first laying eyes on these Balenciaga Ads with Jennifer Connelly, I was misled into hoping there was a secret sequel for “Requiem for Dream” (if you have no idea what that is, I strongly advise you to search this film and wait for the right moment to play it. It’s not easy-to-chew).
But sadly it wasn’t any Aronofsky behind the camera for this crazy campaign but David Sims. What can I say.. she’s strange enough to make the images work, but damn it if I can think of anything else than the Requiem’s junkie Jennifer..
Balenciaga Spring Summer 2008 was very colorful, very print-scary but put together in a Ghesquière manner. In fact, I can’t look at his models and think of any different way to wear them but together. Those overtheknee sandals that Jennifer features for the ad campaign are uniquely unwearable but exquisite in their own way.
The sculptural dresses Nicolas Ghesquière imagined for his prêt-a-porter line for spring-summer 2008 are catwalk friendly but that’s all. Haute couture in it’s true meaning. And now featuring a scary-frightening Requiem-looking Jennifer Connelly. What do you make of it?
