Taylor Swift’s Vogue US February 2012

Each and every time I used to complain about Vogue US doing celebrity covers. Now I gave up that whining for it is truly beyond me and living a perpetually negative attitude won’t help. The truth is, and I realize this can be upsetting for fashpeople who look at Vogue as the Bible of Fashion, that Anna Wintour is more than just about fashion. She’s about style.

And today’s style (for more reasons than I care to get into right now) is the celebrity style. Of course we get our fair share of models and fashion editorials, but as far as the cover goes… well take Taylor Swift’s Vogue February 2012 cover – it’s a great cover! And it will sell way more than, say, with Anja Rubik in the very same pose.

Now, what fashpeople may ignore here is that this way, fashion actually spreads wider and wider. Because this Vogue (as was the case with past editions and, undoubtedly, future issues will follow the same pattern) is more likely to be acquisitioned by people who aren’t religious about fashion and style. But, through this marketing trick, they get flooded with fashion and style despite their initial impulse to buy the magazine because of the celebrity cover.

My thoughts. Now let’s see what’s inside (you can check out the gallery here):

2012 Golden Globes Red Carpet, The Colorful Dresses

Now that we’ve seen the main fashion coordinates of the 69th edition of the Golden Globe Awards, it’s time for a little fun! The closing report for this year’s edition of the Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe Awards Ceremony focuses on the colorful dresses of the festive night.

Good and bad, we’ve seen it before, only this time it’s Technicolor, baby! Let’s get to it! I was going to treat it separately as they’re two different batches in my opinion: the bright, bold and colorful and the blue & green dresses. So fear not if you’ll see them grouped as such below! Anything you don’t see in the main article’s pictures, it’ll be in the gallery (so if you want to jump and check out the images first, click here). My favorite two: Helen Mirren and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Both representing for the blue dresses.

2012 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Black Dresses

The safe choice for evening wear, the queen of all dresses, the Little Black Dress (shorter or longer, simpler or more intricate) was a sure bet for the 2012 edition of the Golden Globe Awards.

Not as numerous as the white-ish, pale neutrals, soft gowns we talked about earlier, the black dresses were equally gorgeous, maybe even more interesting, fashion wise, than the rest. My favorite was, of course, Meryl Streep. A fashion winner, not just a Golden Globe winner! (she took home the Golden Globe for the Best Actress Award for her interpretation in the Iron Lady – once again, Anna Wintour picks the winners for Vogue’s cover) She’s wearing Alessandra Rich, and even if it was a bed sheet or table cloth or both, all I know is that it’s totally her, it suits her, it looks amazingly comfortable and she may wear whatever she pleases, she’ll still be the great Meryl Streep! (I realize I may be all alone in my corner while the entire world is casting fashion stones at Meryl’s dress choice for last night). The story continues right after the jump (you can click here for the gallery!)

2012 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Pale Dresses

Going through the pictures of the 2012 Golden Globe Awards Ceremony, I noticed something was sticking out as a trend on the Red Carpet. Did you see how many pale, soft colored dresses were in attendance?

White, white with a hint of pink, white with a hint of gray, white with a hint of peachy, white with a hint of whatever, you name it, it was there tonight! Everyone was wearing floor length dresses (the exception can be finger counted!), flowy fabrics, simple designs (with some notable alternatives we’ll talk about later on). We already admired one of the pale fans tonight: Angelina Jolie. Her pinkish white was lovely but my absolute favorite was Elle Macpherson. Elle’s gorgeous Zac Posen dress stole my heart! (the story continues right after the jump, click here for the gallery!)

Michelle Williams In Blue Jason Wu Dress 2012 Golden Globes

Michelle Williams is not wearing Chanel, ladies and gents! I can hardly believe my eyes as I’m looking at Michelle’s radiant face in Jason Wu dress! Although keeping her retro feel (which I love, by the way!), Michelle Williams’ blue leopard print dress was an interesting choice for the 2012 Golden Globes Awards Ceremony.

I can’t say I’m a big fan of the dress, but I do appreciate Michelle going from black & white Chanel to a more contemporary and interesting, although simple and classic design approach. I do love her headband! It was the extra touch her look needed in order to be completely fashionable to my eyes!

Mila Kunis In Black Dior Dress For 2012 Golden Globes

As expected, Mila Kunis, who is a Dior girl now as we’ve been announced through her latest advertising campaign with the couture house, was wearing a black Dior dress for the 2012 Golden Globes Awards Ceremony.

It’s not “too much Dior” for her to pull off so she’s looking great, so was the dress, although average. There wasn’t anything risky or avant-garde at Mila on tonight’s Red Carpet, so I might as well go ahead and call her one of the safe choices. You know, the lbd that can do no harm. (too bad she had to be photographed with that “where am I? what am I doing here” face!)

Emma Stone’s Plum Lanvin Dress For 2012 Golden Globes

Emma Stone is, once more, one of my favorite Red Carpet appearances! For the 2012 Golden Globes Awards Ceremony she was one of the Lanvin girls with what has been described as a “deep plum tulle siren gown with raspberry paneling side insert”, some bedazzled shoulders and eagle belt.

A complicated way to tell her dress story, which, in deep and utmost fashion appreciation has been described by Emma herself as “purple and fuchsia. And there’s an eagle!”. That’s a good way to break down intricate couture talk! Well done, Emma!
