This doesn’t even dignify as a fashion disaster. It’s a silhouette disaster. How does anyone choose its outfits? Function to what it’s fitting and flattering for its constitution, right?
Well, in case that changed and fashion flatters skeletons and ironing tables, here goes Keira for the Toronto premiere of the Duchess. Critics welcomed her movie without hiding their lack of enthusiasm because she’s too thin and she’s supposed to impersonate an 18th century beauty, generous hourglass silhouette and she seems to not be touched by all this.
She chose this Marc Jacobs gown accessorizing it with earrings in her hair. And we’re supposed to be pleased with her choice. Well, my eyes hurt like I’ve been hitting a wall. That flat she looks! Why couldn’t we see more good examples on the Red Carpet? Why must we all hail the skeletrons?
This is the point where I ask myself over and over again what fashion stylists do with their famous clients. From my fashion amateur seat, fashion and style simply don’t meet in Keira Knightley above look.

Her frame is obviously very thin on her upper body and while the pleated skirt hides her more ample lower body features, it still doesn’t help her look decent enough. The strapless dress seems ready to fall off at any second as no other curve fights against the gravity: everything is concealed by the pleated bustier.
Perhaps this is a fashion move dictated by the over-weight and over-voluminous costumes Keira wore in ‘The Duchess’ movie, purposely liberating herself from the strains of the 18th century fashion. (the movie follows Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire throughout her life. Below a portrait of the Duchess, great-great-great-great aunt of late Lady Diana, signed by Thomas Gainsborough).
Either way, I strongly believe this is not a good dress for Keira and she should definitely consider changing her stylist (or her style, if she really doesn’t use the services of a fashion professional).

You know I like this dress but not on Keira, she looks like a boy in it.
She is skinny but she states that she comes by this naturally, but she was not this skinny in “Bend it like Beckham”.
Oh and I think it could have been jazzed up better too instead of earrings in her hair.
I wrote earlier that she was far more natural pretty in “Bend it Like Bendham”. Lovely movie.
The dress is okay but its draped on the wrong body. Flat chested is okay on a slender body and can be charming. But this looks scary and very unattractive. It makes her head looks too big too!
Awful!
She looks like a street lamp!
i disagree. I think she look quite good in this. She is very outspoken about not being chesty and it is a good example for those less endowed. Think of all the other examples girls who dont have boobs get to look too and just see them getting boob jobs
Ellington, Adriana, I shamefully admit I have missed “Bend it like Beckham” so I couldn’t make the approach but I liked her in “Love Actually” where she wasn’t as annoying as she is now…
Dolly Bird :) you’re too funny!
Rose – I understand taking the un-chesty part in the boobs war. But she doesn’t necessarily have to be disgraceful about it. And here she was. A (nearly) flat chested who pulls it wonderfully is Kate Moss. Not only she’s not ashamed of not being curvy but she’s also shamelessly showing her nipples all around the world!
kpriss, in what way is she being disgraceful about her flat chest?
I actually do think she looks good in this, regardless of her lack of breast which if you find ugly is just another means by which to stereotype/discriminate bodyshapes.
I agree
This dress is disgusting…I’m sorry but I just had to say it!
The one thing I don’t get about Keira is that she gets annoyed at people saying she’s too skinny and then we see her wearing something as ugly and revealing as this! Let’s be fair…WHAT DOES SHE LOOK LIKE???!! If you don’t want people critising how skinny you are, then don’t bloody something like that! COVER UP GIRL!
Hmm. I think she looks gorgeous, but then again she always does. There’s something to be said about diversity; America Ferrera(sp?) looks gorgeous usually, so does she. I don’t have a preferred body type. You can look gorgeous even without looking curvy.
Uh…are those actually earrings? They just look like pretty barettes to me, thanks.
To me she looks beautiful with a simple look.
I love this dress and I think everybody is entitled to wear what they want, and in turn have their bad fashion days, but I do think she could have chosen something more flattering, featuring the waist instead of her shoulders. I think being you is great, whether thin or curvy, but you really have to know how to dress it. points to Keira for trying something different! I bet that dress was fun to walk in :) to be honest though, it doesn’t look like it’s really staying up right. maybe a belt at the waist and an awsome necklace would be cute :)
At least shes not like every other girl in the world who has fake boobs!
I totally agree! like I said, she’s being herself :)
I think that she looks elegant and extremelty attractive. Her hair, makeup and jewelerry look amazing!
However, although I think the dress looks very nice on her (it is a beautiful dress, love it!) it would look better is she pulled it up a little bit and, seeing as she lacks a little in the bust area, if she did this it would make this area appear more filled out.
She is really not that skinny, I would like to be as skinny as her but I do agree that she has had a fuller figure in the past.
Thanks! xx
her dress is by alexander mcqueen!!
not by marc jacobs
You are cruel and empty.
It think she looks amazing just how she is. She is so classic!
She look like as if she is going to faint poor girl.
I think she looks stunning in this dress, although I do think she has little hump sticking out, I think she really good.
