Benefit Benetint Lip Gloss Contains High Amounts Of Lead

How many products in your makeup kit are without harmful components? We talked about this in the past and here I am, pointing out again, that not everything we put on our skin is without consequences.

A recent study has been conducted by the Environmental Defence Canada through the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics on popular brands like Laura Mercier, L’Oreal, MAC, Mary Kay, Sephora. The conclusions were rather sad, needless to say only one product from the 49 was free of possibly poisonous metal (the product is Annabelle Mineral Pigment Dust Solar). From the studied makeup products, there was one which detached itself with 110ppm level of lead, ten times higher than the limit set by Health Canada. And that product is Benefit Benetint Lip Gloss! What’s your beauty routine and how do studies like this one affect your makeup acquisitions? (via)

Its a shame that the cosmetic industry besides profiting on women’s insecurities, put their health at risk.
there is no excuse in the world to harm consumers and even less your own costumers.

It is indeed! And not to forget all the other lies they tell us about their miracle stuff. Plus we must not forget they have to keep their stockholders satisfied. Because they are worth it.

The cosmetic industry should be treated like the tobacco industry? I guess I can dream on since this very mighty people are ruthless. I tried to use a recommended organic product. But I got horrible break-outs….At the moment I am desperately trying to find a nice and safe and also cheaper product….but good info is hard to find….I google on though. What else?

@mdinah “mwuah” for being so brave and calling out the truth!

@ajginger tell me about it! I emptied my cosmetics case except my nail polish (I can’t go without my wonderful OPI and I hate chipping polish or nail lacquer that just doesn’t adhere to the nail), my deodorant (eco fans, disagree all you want, it’s a necessity, I’m not cutting back here) and my mascara (yeah, I know, but I’m a Lancome chica).

As far as other products go – I’ve tried Argan oil, Coconut oil, Shea butter, Cocoa butter and various essential oils (Monoi for instance or Lime)… can’t say I made up my mind yet. How about you? Care to make an entry about it? see what others feel and what have they tested? Like you said, ajginger, this kind of information is rare and precious!

I got kissed! i got kissed!! ;-)
ginger,i wouldn’t go as far as ruling cosmetics and tobbaco under same guides but it would definetely be less misleading.
All of those “89% of our consumers reported improvement on x,y,z”, “tests IN VITRO showed blablabla”
“visible difference in 3 weeks”, pleeeease…
89% in a group of 49 is not too difficult to reach. (did you girls realize that they always use 49 volunteers?)
oh yes, because a cell on a petri dish behave the same way as a live human cell …oh yes and i believe in Santa Klaus too.

mdinah, I couldn’t come up with something else than this example, guess pre-fabricated food that contains vitamins blahblah is better….no, I never realised or noticed they use 49 volunteers! From now on I pay attention. Thanks.
