You have to adore the irony of this Vanity Fair February 2010 cover: Tiger Woods? Also, you have to agree that in times of crisis, drastic measures are the new routine.
Tiger needed to smooth out his heavily tarnished image and reputation. What’s buying out the cover story of Vanity Fair (bonus a photo session with Annie Leibovitz, herself in a heavy financial embarrass – even if the photos are said to have been taken in 2006) for Tiger Woods, he whose multimillion commercial endorsements vanished like washed-away sand castles? I’ve read the Vanity Fair cover story (the web version) and had mixed feelings about Vanity Fair’s cover decision. Bringing someone as unpopular as Tiger is at the moment in the spotlight is a vanity affair indeed. Especially looking so… different than the pro golf player everyone was familiar with. But why? Why would a fallen angel raise the interest necessary to boost magazines sales? Especially one who’s fallen so deep in disgrace due to hypocrisy, cheating and lying his way around the world? Well why ever not Kpriss? What is the difference between having Tiger on the cover than say Lindsay Lohan? Really?
I am not a fan of Tiger’s, I cannot abide golf. It is a good walk spoiled to coin Mark Twain, but he is now infamously famous and his pictures will sell this issue as people love to see their “heroes” fall from their ivory tower.
Simply put, schadenfreude.

You’re right, after all! I should forget morals when talking scandals and public life… Even so, after everything that’s been brought to light about him lately, I can’t look at Tiger Woods and keep my stomach in a serene mood. Can.Not.
And yeah, Ellington, you have a point – where’s the difference between that and a LiLo cover? Gender? Freckles? I sometimes feel ashamed of the world we’re living in. Of the new so-called “values”.
Why do “we” – generically speaking – love fallen heroes? What’s in the dirt they’re hitting that’s so additively interesting? Seeing that they’re made of the same sins we are? That’s immature and beyond the point. We all make mistakes, nobody, no human is above error. it’s like they say: Errare Humanum Est, Perseverare Diabolicum
