Normally, it’s LVMH the one who’s suing around, but something has changed. Louis Vuitton was sued by Clint Arthur, an art collector who bought limited-edition prints for $12,000 (in 2007) but later found out that the print fabric was also used for the Louis Vuitton Murakami bags (selling around $1,000).
While Louis Vuitton’s defense is entirely based on claims for publicity and profit for Clint Arthur, the issue raised by the art-collector is rather alarming. Using art to sell luxury is not uncommon on the luxury goods market, but rare are those who really make the difference between commercial art and real art. Clint Arthur’s LV Murakami case hearing is scheduled for today (Monday, April 27th). Would it be all about the ca$h? (LATimes via Luxist)
