Once fall sets in, everything gets earthy shades, from head to toes. For those who were lucky enough to be born with a gorgeous auburn hair, this is everyday bliss, for those who ran out in a frenzy to buy Topshop freckle pen this summer, trying to mimic that fantastic fairytale redhead charm, it’s yet another style challenge:
Vogue unanimously declared in the August 2014 issues (US and Paris respectively) that fire red hair is the haircolor of fashion’s elite. At least as far as this year is concerned. For those who were (luckily) born this way, being ‘fire starters’ is a way of life: passionately fashionable.

Grace Coddington artful magic is plain obvious in the ‘Fire Starters’ story photographed by Annie Leibovitz. Actors, models and entertainers, the redheads’ artistic personality is enough to make this a truly stellar pictorial. Lily Cole is notoriously missing and hopefully for a good reason (although her lookalike, 16yo Aussie Madison Stubbington, does a pretty amazing job in representing for the wavy redhaired models out there).

Grace Coddington is the perfect Masters of Ceremonies for this special gathering. Everyone attest to the unfading power of red locks, born-with (Julianne Moore and daughter Liv Freundlich, Jessica Chastain, Domnhall Gleeson, Karen Elson, Madison Stubbington) and enhanced along the way (Amy Adams, whose red is more golden than fire-starter and Florence Welch who decided to get a red hairdye while looking for a pub in Paris, after a concert).
David Sims, across the Ocean, photographed Sasha Pivovarova as styled by Suzanne Koller for Vogue Paris’s August 2014 issue in a similarly titled story: ‘Incediaire’. With an all-black pictorial, Sasha’s smile and red hair (by Paul Hanlon, makeup by Lucia Pieroni, nails by Anatole Rainey) make the notable difference. The difference a la mode.

Coordination is the key (matching hair, eyebrows, lips and nails), having fun is the speedboat to the fashion destination. Sasha Pivovarova looks a frown away from her usual blond hair and a smile away from a true fiery redhead.
So, as the Vogue Bible tells you, both the New and the Old Continents are head over heels for fire red hair this autumn. Are you?

Has red hair ever been out of fashion since it was accepted as ‘normal’ ;)
Julianne’s daughter is a beautiful mixture of her parents. :)
All pretty people here although I like Sasha better as a blond and do not like the shoot very much. So somber…..
